Yep looks mainly, i wont be able to ride a 998R or a 999R to its full on the road. Also there is a company that have developed some improved fairings for the 999R which improves looks even more ;) only thing is... store begins with C..... ccccasoli :( TJ. BTW.. my bikes were, honda XL125R. honda CB125. Suzuki GSX250. then straight on to a honda CBR1000FH. got plenty of experience(usually by falling off) on smaller bikes then moved onto a better ie more expensive bike. oh hang on?? i still fall off!! :lol:. if you buy a smaller duke (600ss/600monster)they are easy enough to handle to gain experience. cheap to buy. and when you are ready to move up you should'nt lose too much money. low insurance group. good looking/sounding. and its a Ducati. for my two pennyworth After being off bikes for 10 or 12 years, I got a carbie 600ss For the first 6 months it was fast enough, handled well, and let me remember or improve my skills. It was cheap enough to purchase (dont know about a youngsters insurance tho') and it was a duke. I was lucky enuff not to drop it, stationary or moving, but if I had, it wouldnt have been really a major prob, loadsa spares out there for them. If Sgt Law wants a duke, why not start at entry level, it may not have the top end of an IL4 or even the acceleration, but a DUKE is a DUKE :roll::roll: rgds mort |
I'd agree with most of the above, but the duke 600 is pretty gutless. I know I would've been bored to tears with it at 18, and a danger to other road users as I thrashed the nappers of it everywhere. I had an RD200 at that age and rode like a lunatic (you couldn't ride them any other way!). It was only when I got my first 900 duke and relaxed into using torque to propel me out of corners that I started to really learn about handling (for my money a more satisfying topic than outright speed). There's something very un-rushed about the 900 engine, but it's still hugely satisfying. Just need an RS250 for the track now..... And yes, get some top-quality leathers, preferably made-to-measure, a decent lid, gloves, boots'n'all. You never know what you're going to hurt when you come off, so you may as well protect it all. |
Mate best thing to do is save some money aside and buy a house or something ;) Dont spend all your hardearned at once... and why give insurance companies so much of your money :puzzled: TJ |
heres my bit of advice mate....try and get a test ride on some of them,if you're serious about buying a good dealer should help you out,you never know,you may hate the way some bikes ride/feel!!! |

touch wood ive not had a prang since i was 17,.....33 now,phew,hope ive not given it the kiss of death!lol....i had an rg 125,cbr 600,fireblade and now i ride a 996,(did drop the blade tho,twice!doh!!!)...as long as you've got the confidence dont think it matters what bike you buy,if you dont twist the throttle you dont go anywhere!! |
well i got a lot of money just sitting there it's either a bike or a car. So bike naturally and i have been riding since 16. and hate my 125 its so boring but it rev's like hell 9.000rpm and still wants to go :D but i dont want to blow her up :D so what was every ones first bike ?? |
My first bike First bike I ever rode was a CZ 175. My mate passed his test on it (no one knew it was not a 125, except my mate!) My first bike was an MZ TS125 Lux. Heh, ugly or what?:barfy: |
