ANY PILOTS OUT THERE?

Am looking at finally giving it a crack at fullfilling a lifetime ambition and train to be an instructor.

Any advice as to job options etc...etc....would be greatly appreciated.
I know an instructors position is quite a low salary?

I dont know much about it but the way i understand it is that instructors are generally people who are building up their hours for some sort of commercial licence hence they get little if any pay for their job.

Could be wrong though!

Revdecal..

I've toyed with this idea myself (on and off!) since gaining my PPL fifteen years ago - but it's a lot of cash to spend for what is essentially a piece of paper. So far as I remember, you'll need your BCPL (Basic Commercial Pilot's Licence), followed first by your Assistant Instructor Rating (not to mention Night Rating/ IMC/Twin Engine etc.) To gain your Basic Commercial Licence will cost you a good deal of cash (200hrs minimum @ maybe £100+ per hour, plus ground school/examinations/medicals etc). Also, your Instructor course will be at an even higher hourly rate, since you'll be flying twin engined aircraft some of the time. Get through this lot, and you'll be able to work as an instructor on your BCPL. Bear in mind that some 'hours builder' pilots are prepared to work for buttons at this stage of their careers, in order to gain the 700+ hrs needed for their full CPL (Commercial), and this is why the rate of pay for flying instructors is so variable. Instructors who will commit to staying with the job are rare though, so in doing that you might command a better wage. My local flight instructors were earning what they called a 'fair' wage, although none would ever divulge the exact amount!

Yeti WAS a pilot! CAA suspended my licence today following Monday's little jaunt to the hospital in the back of a fluorescent van with blue lights flashing!

Seems it wasn't a full blown heart attack but something called "unstable angina"! Hurt like hell and it's cost me so far my pilots licence, driving licence, trip to the factory and possibly the Cartagena track day unless the next series of tests prove I'm ok after all!
:(

Don't waste your time/money training for this. If you are young enough, bite the bullet and go for a full commercail pilots licence. It can be done for less than 30k in the states. The airline ARE going to be recruiting big time very soon now.

You'll be fine mate, they found out what it was in loads of time so they can get it sorted before something more serious happens.

Bell me if you need anything.
