Paint or Powder?

Any advice on alloy wheel finish,2k paint or powder coating.Any recommended powder coaters in Cheshire/Stoke areas.Gloss or satin?

tony h 18-Feb-2005 23:30

paint em not powder i reckon satin black looks quite good on 5 spokes with a new set of rim decals

Tony,
why paint? If powder is applied properly with a decent etching primer its far more durable.

not so much a durability issue but i reckon you get a better finish with paint i.e shine & depth {fair enough not with satin} + there.s more quality painters around than powder coaters

Tony,

I understand what your saying but my main concern with the finish on wheels is how will it stand up to tyre changes, stone chips and cleaning and with a decent aplicator powder does come up almost as good as paint.

tony h 19-Feb-2005 00:41

suppose it depends on what u want my carbon seats not as durable as the original but looks that bit better a good quality lacquer is well up to the job my old arse6 wheels lasted 4 year of track /work/thrash & i still got the little xtra bling factor

powder without a doubt, had a set of my marvics painted in 2 pack and was chipped in one season. so powder for me from now on. just make sure you get them blasted yourself. which was easy for me cos own a sand blasting company. :D

Was gonna powder but painted instead cos I didn't want to remove the bearings to get em blasted.

Gloss gloss gloss.
