New pressure plate Im getting a dp pressure plate +cover off a member and I think it will come with a new bearing? Im most worried about when I pull off the old one as to whether the push rod should come out? or am i better of knocking the rod out of the old one so the rod stays in? As I heard if the rod is pulled out o-rings can be torn? Many thanks |
Nowt to worry about with changing pressure plates.Even easier on a Monster,....no fairing to take off first!;) Just remove the outer cover.(4x5mm bolts) Now unscrew the pressure plate bolts.(6x4mm bolts) Remove the springs and caps. Before you take off the plate, check out the studs protruding through the plate. One of them will have a slot cut into it.Look closely at the plate and you will see an arrow on it pointing to the slot. This a marker to help you get the plate in the correct position. Now remove the plate, yep the push rod may come with it.DONT PANIC!Just gently remove it completly out of the engine. You should be able to just pull it away from the plate. They can be quite tight,so a strong tug may be required. Pop the rod back into the motor, making sure it goes back in all the way. If your new plate has'nt got a bearing fitted, you can use the one in your origional plate.Tap it out with a hammer,(use an old socket and hit it on the outer race) and simply press it into your new plate. Fit the plate, bolt it all up and away ya go! Dont worry if your new plate has'nt got the referance marks as I mentioned before. You should be able feel the outer plate grooves lining up with the clutch drum. It really is that easy,...now go out there and do it!:) |
Thanks Keefy, The plate came this morning and it does have a bearing to and a punch mark to line up:D:D If it ever stops raining I'll pick up the s4r and get it on:) |
Your recall sorted then ???? Enjoy the bike !! Those open clutch covers release LOADS of noise (if it is an open one on S4R) [Edited on 23-4-2005 by clockwork orange] |
Yeah it is ready thanks, they took a tie rod off a s2r that was not affected by the recall, still drizzle here though:(:( It is a open cover the newer Dp one and red pressure plate:D:D:D [Edited on 23-4-2005 by Lee1980] |
Lee, its easy - even I did mine :smug: (after a little shopping trip just after I got my bike last Jan). AK was out, so I just couldnt wait:D Hope you enjoy the ride home when you have collected it. I must admit, I 'wussed' out of going with youngest bruv in collecting his new bike today, having got soaked at the stables first thing. C:roll: |
Thanks Ck Dont know whether to get it or not, its that drizzle here looks like its in for the day to:(:( |
ck let us know what your bruv thinks of the speed triple i had the 509 version a few years back and i love the looks of the new one. |
Lee, you might want to consider getting some stainless springs when you change it - the standard ones tend to rust with the open cover. Spareshack has them at a good price if you do want them. |
I've read this with interest as I about to do the same on my 999, but have a couple of questions. I took a peak at the current pressure plate BEFORE reading this thread but can't say I noticed the 4mm bolts you refer to. I was standing on the other side of the bike and leaning over the saddle though. The big question is how easy is it to fit the stainless springs? Do you require any special tools or knowledge? Thanks in advance. |
