Clip ons and fork Stanchions!

I want to give these a go at Brands next week, I may be able to get my hands on a set from a 996 so I've just been out doing a bit of measuring.

It looks to me like the Monnie forks are 50mm at the top (2003 model 620 Monster) and the 996 ones are 52mm (2000 model 996 - showa forks). Is this right?

So, lets assume that the measurements are accurate for the time being - I'd assume that I could just use a bit of thin rubber, or something similar, to allow me to fit the 52mm clip ons to 50mm forks anyway?

What do you reckon?

Rubber no, but a sheet of 1mm alloy will do the job nicely. As weeksy says it's best to get the right size in the first place, but I have seen others sleeving them out.

I picked up my 50mm clip-ons for £25+p&p so there's definitely some cheapies out there.

Cheers,

Ali

Why of course, I'd already looked there and found the 996 ones ;)

But I'm not going to bid for them.

I bought mine from Moto2.

They're not cheap, but you can buy replacement bars at 14 quid delivered to your door which is the most important thing, and the clamps are guaranteed for life too.

You want the "standard clip-ons"

The BMF auto-jumble may prove a goo source of 50mm Clip-ons

A R Racing Products also do some for £35.

Scooter916 phoned the other evening and said he picked some ZXR400 ones real cheap

Most of the cheap ones will be single piece and once they're bent it's throw them away and start again. This means you'll need to buy at least two, one set being spares, and could end up paying more in the long run.
