What rpm are the speeds based on

If a 620 Six speed flat out under the required conditions could do 147mph on 15/36 gearing what would a 5 speed version likely pull, also would a 674 be able to obtain the same speed in the same conditions on the same gearing.
I assume my 583 would need to run 15/38 in the same conditions that allow a 620 six speed to run 15/36
If 15/36 is around 15mph per 1000rpm then 15/38 would be nearer 14mph per 1000rpm which would equate to the less powerfull 5 speed bikes being about 8mph down on topspeed.
can't see me passing many bigger cc bikes down the straights.
Best I hide the NOS under the seat for CC and Snet.

Sorry, the speeds are based on a 5 speed 620 gearbox - and were just for fun coz TP asked me for them :sniff:

The predicted speed does not allow for wind resistance etc. so I guesstimated on a 10% reduction (based on book speed of 115mph on stock gearing) which is shown as the corrected speed.

...but the speed side of it is all rubbish, coz you'd never pull 15/36 or whatever it is... at least not to 9,500 revs in top.

Hope that clears that up :D

My bog standard 750ss was struggling to pull 15/37 last week, but was over-revving on 14/37...........so 14.5/37 is about right, I reckon!:D

I don't get this 15 - 36/7 or 8 stuff
15/46 but 36 ???
what top speed does that give on a 583 ?
On 15/45 road gearing my monster would give a indicated top speed of 126mph so equate that down a bit for speedo error to around 120 and thats what my dynochart said too.
But if it was geared to 15/36 what would that do to the top speed ?
Can someone please explain that bit?

Unless you had a very very very very long hill to ride down, I doubt a 583 would even pull 15/36 gearing, it's just way too tall (in 5th gear).

If you did find a very very very very long hill to ride down, then you may see 140mph ish on that gearing.

Think of it like gears on a push bike, if you select the biggest sprocket on the front and smallest on the back, it's really hard to pedal, but once you get it wound up, you go quicker (and pedal less)

If you select the smallest front gear, and biggest rear, you pedal like mad and don't really get anywhere.

Hope that helps :D

Yeah - I think ! Thanks :)

FWIW, our bike (bogs std 583) was running 15/36 at Cadwell for the first DD round - seemed to suit for that twisty little track.

A little change for C/Coombe tho is in order

Wasn't it running a 46 rear??
