Motorbike Sales 2005

Even the affluent Swiss have stopped buying!

All the gnomes in Zurich could not stop the slid!

Figures released for Swiss Motorbike sales (ex scooters) show an overall downturn in 2005 of minus 14% on 2004's figures - individual brand performances:

Honda and Yamaha -15.6%
Kawasaki -24.5%
Suzuki +7.3%

Harley +11.4%

KTM -7.2%
Ducati -8.6%
Aprilia -41.2%
BMW +6.0%
Triumph +12.5%

So Johnny Bloor does it again........................outperforms the Germans, the Japs and the Italians - oh and before anyone say’s anything - Harleys don't count as only the brain dead buy them!!

What's the UK looking like - anyone got the numbers for Blighty?

I'm off to the Swiss motorbike show this Friday but I doubt if they’ll be anything of great interest on display – especially from Ducati who seem to be going round in ever decreasing circles just lately.
:puzzled:

Looks like Suzuki are the flavour of the year as far as the Jap bikes go, with a sale growth only bettered by Triumph and Harley.

Could this be related to WSB performances, can't be Moto GP and Ducati sales have certainly slipped since the days when Foggy was wining WSB races/championships

Could it be the fact they are not really making a 'budget' machine these days ?

The Monster was a 'cheaper' alternative to someone getting into Ducatis, as was the 600SS/750SS... now whilst they may still sell some of the above, when they've done re-vamps, they've only done them to the big budget, e.g Monster S4.

MAybe it's time to build a cheaper alternative, and make it a little 'different' ?

Suzuki sales are up becuase they're cheap...

What and all the other Jap bikes are expensive, must be some cheap Triumphs and Harleys in Switerland also.

Felix 13-Feb-2006 11:52

Even Landrovers are cheaper in Switzerland!

Twinfan 13-Feb-2006 12:57

I think Suzuki sales will be up globally as they're very competitive on pricing at the moment.

Guys
Nothing is "cheap" in Switzerland.

You'll pay more for your Triumph, Ducati, Suzuki or Harley at the dealer, plus, you'll pay more in tax on top of the price for road tax (which is dependent on size of engine and which of the 26 kantones you live in)

I bought my Duke in Blighty and rode it out here and paid local taxes (import + vat + road + registration + licensing taxes) and I still saved 3grand.

Where oh where Felix did you get that Landrover price tag from - I'll buy two!!

My brother bought one recently and it was cheaper to buy it there then here. Fuel is cheaper as well.
