Castle Coombe Hi, Does anyone know much about the setup at CC. I have booked a track day there as i have never been and I need all the help I can get but the literature they send back says NO RACE BIKES all over it. I know there is a 105 noise limit which I hope my twin Termi's will be under but is the no race bikes on a track day blurb just to pacify the local council etc? Cheers Franco |

race bike was fine last year..but they noise test every bike and i failed ..so had to fit Noise killers and get re-tested then passed and all was ok..... TAKE Noise Killers........................ Phil... :D [Edited on 27-4-2006 by fil2] |
You'll be ok dude. To be extra safe you can buy cheap db killers to shove in the end of your exaust http://www.bikeit.co.uk/exhausts/viperbafflekit.htm I'm taking some to Assen too!! Rich @ Louigi Moto sells em, 01761 453366 (Somerset). His superbike racer Tom is the rep for Bike It. Otherwise if you want nice ones, I think Mark Hill @ MHP is your man 01932 336883 (Surrey) |
Hey Franco, i thought the same when i read their bumpf aswell so i rang them up , if u have racing numbers they MUST BE TAPED OVER OR OFF , also as u r a race bike possiblely more stringent checks ie DB lvls and they said the will keep an eye on my riding , i replied you might be able to give me a few pointers then........, she said no incase you are dangerous and we have to take you off..:o moi dangerous i wish , might go faster. Hope that helps whenr u going ...................:eureka: |
If there is a instructor there that is also selling tyres, that should be my mate Rob Jones. Have a word with him and mention my name (Kevin Ellis) i'm sure he will give you a few pointers. be very careful on noise a decibel limit is one thing and how they measure it is another. They usually do it different to the ACU rules in that they measure it at higher Revs and at a closer distance sometimes inline with the exhaust output. There are some residents in the villages around CC would like to see the circuit closed and one of their main weapons in the campaign is to do with excessive noise. |
I've seen plenty of race bikes at CC track days in the past, but admittedly without numbers on. Don't worry about the fact that you're a race bike. DB killers definitely worth having with the termis. Are you booked on the 24th May trackday? I'm thinking of booking that too. If you haven't been to CC before they do 10 minute sessions (because we all get tired and lethargic after 10 mins) and usually 6 groups - so you get half as much track time as a track day somewhere else! |
Thanks to all of you. Fine advice. I think I will take noise killers. Dunc - I am going on the 7th June cos the 24th is all booked up. So Iwill be making the trip to CC twice in a week I'm afraid. I must say the whole impression they give at CC is very twee and quaint - it's quite funny in a way. Thanks again all |
You're dead right - that's what I've always thought about CC. Its a proper Wiltshire trackday! Mind you if you ever get the chance to go down to Castle Combe village, thats very twee and quaint too, but with howling engines in the background. |
Will try to get there for a visit maybe...no wonder they hate the race track Cheers |
