Shock Absorber: How Much? Recommendations Please

If I decide to look for eg: an Ohlins shock on eBay, what should I look out for? How much should I pay? Are they interchangable between all 9** and 748 models?

Usage - mainly road use, with occasional track days.

Thanks :D

Id recommend Maxton,a new units about £480,rebuilds obviously vary in price.Tried Ohlins but required a rebuild after 8 months, depends if your one of these label junkies;)

any recommendations for someone to do a rebuild? i don't think i really need an uprated shock as i mainly ride on the road and i'm not particularly quick. if it is fairly cost effective and the turnaround is quick, then i'll take the "rebuild" route. however, if i can get an uprated shock for the same price or less, then i'm tempted to get one.

thanks

Set up Engineering in Wandsworth.
MH Racing in Wiltshire.
Maxton.
Any suspension specialist will rebuild a standard unit, its wether or not its cost effective if too many parts are required.Have a chat with them.A standard unit in good condition, set up correctly is perfectley adequate for road use and trackdays. With 99% of folks claiming to need "uprated" suspension, its a case of egos writing cheques that their ability cant cash.

That's a bit like owning a Ducati then....ego driving a the desire for a bike most are unable to ride to 5/10's. ;)

thanks for the advice and leads.

as i said above, i don't really need an uprated shock, but if i can get one for less than the cost of rebuilding the stock item, then purely for the sake of making the bike a bit more trick and therefore sellable, then i might get one. i'll give those companies a ring next week so i can weigh up the pros and cons.

obviously, if i do get an ohlins or similar, what model numbers should i look out for/avoid given that i'm a road biased rider? ie: i don't want something too track oriented.

thanks again :)

Maybe worth Giving Baines Racing a call, My mate had a 900SS off them a few years ago that had been reworked/overhauled and internal parts replaced with WP stuff.
