San Francisco accomodation advice Gonna be stopping off in San Fran for a couple of days on my way back from NZ in August. Can anyone recommend a decent hotel in the downtown of Fishermans wharf area? Have been told there are area's of SF to avoid at all costs, and would hate top book a place there on the basis of an Expedia search only to find I'm in the middle of the drugs capital! Looking to spend around £100 per room per night. |
was there quite a few years back and stayed at the holiday inn which is down near fishermans wharf. seemed absolutely fine and was pretty cheap if i remember. nb definitely go to alcatraz and do the full tour thing. superb |
Speak to Rob (ElectricSheep) as although I'm a regular visitor he lived there for some time. Might be there in August for a couple of weeks myself, so will let you know once I'm booked. |
feel free to go when a DD round is on. |
South side is a bit iffy as you come in. I usually come in off the 280 because there is a flyover that comes up and round that almost makes you feel you're flying and gives you a great view of the downtown area. That brings you out on 8th street or 7th street from memory and the bit between there and market street is pretty run down, but anything north of market street seems fine to me. As Dickie says there is a Holiday Inn and I think a Hyatt down by Fishermans wharf and there is nothing wrong with that area. San Francisco is just about one of the only cities that I feel quite safe in...unlike LA which is the pits IMHO |

DD? What's that? |
Stayed at the Hyatt down in the wharf a few times, no problem with this area, I prefer Union Sq though bit more central easy access to Chinatown etc |
