Ohlins pre-load
 

Right - I had a spill today because I cant reach the floor. Looked at the pre-load when I got home, as I have very little sag, and the spring is about 140mm when uncompressed, ie on paddock stand. Question, what should it be?

Haynes manual says 2000 on should be 151mm, mine is a 98. Also, for those who dont know me, there is considerable weight on the bike so a bit more than average may be needed. Got a mate to sit on it and he struggled to touch the ground with both feet - didnt with the 748 so clearly a big difference.

Any idea wher I can get a clutch lever without extortionate prices? Checked M&P, not listed. But I think the bigger problem will be the headlight mounting which broke...

I think Nelly may have a couple of headlamp surrounds knocking about.
He did have a few weeks ago anyway.

I'm passing by Moto Rapido weds / thurs this week, if they've got these parts (probably in a cardboard box somewhere...) let me know and I'll pick them up for you and save you the journey.

Steve & the boys seem to hoard boxes of these bits so may have the stuff kicking around.

Paul, I got an Ohlins user manual if you want a look.
Also, don't forget that when the bike's on the paddock stand the spring is still under load! Wanna borrow my abba stand?

Just found manual on-line.... Ohlins manual makes interesting reading. My god, I've got brain ache!!

Sorry to hear about your spill - hope there's not too much damage to either you or the bike!

Anyway, standard setting for rear preload is 9mm i.e. wind off preload 'til the spring is completely unloaded then wind back up 'til the spring is 9mm shorter.

Thinking about it, it's a 160mm spring as standard on a Ducati Ohlins so the above mentioned 151mm spring length is the same as carrying 9mm of preload.

As NB says, make sure you measure with the rear suspension unloaded.

What weight of spring have you got on there? If you don't know, list all the writing on the spring. Adding or removing preload is not always the magical solution! Weight of rider needs to be taken into account so it could be you have a less than ideal spring on there - preload won't sort that out!

Those fairing mirror stays are 19 quid inc from a Ducati dealer, so watch it doesn't creep up too high.

As I'd managed to round out the allen socket in the shear bolt holding the mirror in place and couldn't get the mirror off, I thought that hitting the bolt with a chisel to knock the top off would do ... it's a shear bolt after all and I manage to snap them easy enough when tightening them up ... but all I did was end up breaking the fairing stay!

unfortunately, its not the arm I need but the complete headlight bracket. Also, it is the right altho it fell on the left - I guess it mustr have been stressed by the fall...that makes two of us:( Any idea how much the frame is? There is one on ebay, but need to watch I dont over pay.

Seen a nice carbon one on casoli - if only I had the £££

I've seen headlight buckets go for anything from £5-£70 - I guess it depends on how many people dropped their bikes that day!

Wouldnt pay anymore than 50 quid to be honest
