bust water temp sender
 

i've bust me water temp sender unit on the front pot of me bike:(
the insides kinda fell out of the nut! dont really want to drain the cooling system so is there any way to repair one of these if not can i ride without it?? ive still got the one on the back pot.
if it has to be replaced are they expensive to buy cause im credit crunched at the mo
i know one sends to give temp readout and one to ecu to switch fan on and off, the latter has not worked for a while and i have a manual switch to turn fan on and off

Glyn I would think because it is a sealed unit (the watercooling system ) quickly pulling temp plug out would not warrant draining down as the water should remain "sealed under vaccum" You may get a little dribble but not much to worry about. 4D

All that needs doing is the crush washer filing down ever so slightly and it fitted a treat without any modifications.....

cost: £8.71

Only a few pints of coolant came out, remove upper right dash cover and access coolant top-up bottle (and if necessary - radiator cap) and it could probably with a coolant refresh in any case - or, filter and reuse the old.

The 2 sensors on your bike are identical and can be swapped for testing etc.
With your front one knackered, it won't alter anything and you can still ride it - but the "LO" flashing sign on the dash will be permanent.
New ones are about £50, but I love that little link to a Fiat one for £8.50. At that price you can't go wrong.

While we're at it, the common fault that stops the fan is the relay. It's under the seat, easy to get at and costs about two quid (even from a Ducati dealer).

are there other examples of interchangable parts? we should compile a list

Make a post in the Technical section with all the details in it.

Try to include the Ducati part numbers if you can (bag them out of the Parts Manuals on the Ducati site).

I did the same last night when looking for the clutch pressure plate bearing.

Sorry Guys but did that thread ends in a definitive yes. I could never see if the item mentioned was an exact fit/spec

Is that across the face of the washer or around the circumference?

i fitted it to the bike and it worked. it looked exactly the same as the old one i removed.
as for the crush washer i think it is the same size as the ducati one it is just that as you tighten it down it deforms to seal the fit, so looks smaller on the one you remove.
i did file some off the diameter of the washer just to play safe though.it is a very very sft metal. i think that if i had not filed it it would still have deformed to fit the hole.
