Okay folks, can anyone guess what this is? And as an extra challenge can you guess what damage resulted from it being in the state that it is now.

NFI!!

Loz 03-Jul-2004 12:36

It's a nose ring for your prize bull and the damage amounted to £1000's when it got loose in the china shop!

What did I win?!

I should have given you some idea of scale to make it a bit easier perhaps. Its about 4mm diameter.

Looks to me like the little ring that holds the carrier for the return fork to the valve-if I'm correct that would be a dropped valve then-not nice.

It is one of the split rings John but the valve didnt drop. It opened up the valve clearance so much that it wrecked both the opening and closing rockers, the cam shaft, the valve return spring and the shims.

Nelly being the absolute star that he is managed to sort it for me.

Funny thing was the bike was running fine apart from a tappety noise. Of course by the time the noise was loud enough to hear all the damage had been done.

Pic 1

The interesting thing about the pic of the rocker is that the chrome hasnt failed, its just been pressed about 5mm into the surface if the rocker.

FiscusFish 03-Jul-2004 21:24

There are SBK owners that would kill to have chrome that tough on their rockers... :bouncy:
