916SPS (1997-1998) - Question... Someone has emailed me through the DSC Essex website asking if the 916SPS (a rather rare beast with a 996cc engine built only in 1997 & 1998 according to Ducati's TecCafé) and wants to know if these came with a number plate on the yokes, a lá the 996SPS ? Anyone got one that can confirm? |
Yes they did. Bradders has one. |
Cool - thanks Nick. They guy will be gutted as the one he's looking at doesn't have one... :rolleye: |
Senna3's Senna is also minus a number plate on the top yoke |
Might've swapped the top youke at some point?? If it says SPS on the V5 then I wouldn't be too fussed! Could prob get another plate made up anyhow. |
You can also tell by the engine number. I am pretty sure the 996 engine was only on the 1998 SPS. |
Check the TecCafé article as it has a really cool model/year/engine graph to show which is which: http://www.ducati.com/bikes/techcafe...alue=technical |

Ah, well, never mind me, then. I did have a 1997 916R, but that experience ended rather sadly. Great bike tough. |
The 996 engine was first used on the 916 in 1997 upto 1999 then renamed the 996. In 1998 they produced the limited edition foggy rep 916 SPS producing 202 models which is the dogs danglies IMHO ;) |
