Anyone missing a 8mm sockett
 

Because that what Moto Morrelli found inside my inlet port, must have passed by through the butterfly's , luck would have it that no damage has been done . On the service, they found that a rocker was a little suspect with signs of damage so thats going to be replaced the shims are 60% worn, replacing them , so now ive gone for the head of and a decoke thats when they found it. So if any one is missing a 8mm SnapOn socket I will get it polished and remove any sharp bits on it . Ill then ram it up the owners ar4e:lol:
So all things being equal my 996 should be Pucker when I get her back,just ready for Rockingham .4D

It's a good job you don't have high lift cams otherwise it could've dropped through :lol:

I'm really surprised that it just sat there and didn't rattle like crazy or do any serious damage. At the very least it must've seriously messed up the power of the cylinder it was sat in...probably why you thought the 996 wasn't much faster than your 900ss.

The bike in question was owned by me, but the socket wasn't in there when I had it. I sold it to Anthony Ward and he had it serviced at On-Yer-Bike so I would guess the offending item got dropped in then. That would mean it has done several track days and a FAST trip to Italy with a socket rattling around......................makes you think!

Its the sort of thing you would be better off not knowing about Monty,to thing of what might of happened at Cadwell or all the wonderuss ride out miles Ive done 6000 miles since owning the bike. The last one to do any work on it ie; Belts, were On Yer bike so maybe i should contact them to see if they have a socket missing from the rack. 4D

No way you've done any real mileage with a small socket like that rattling about in the inlet tract mate, you sure they aren't winding you up ??. It would be small enough to work it's way round and sit on the back of the valve and would do serious damage before long, the valves are whacking up and down at a hell of a rate and even with standard cams there's a fair old lift.

Used to be a guy that ran a small bike shop over in Buckingham, had a 916 and rode it like a total nutter (ex racer). He was giving it large down the Aylesbusy to Buckingham road when the throttle jammed open at full volume. After a 140mph panic attack he had the sense to turn off the ignition. Took the tank off when he couldn't find any external reason for the sticking and found one of those orrible mesh filters from the nose cone had become detached and found it's way into the inlet, jammed the butterfly wide open !. Heard of another bloke who had a 916 with a lost mesh filter finding a dead sparrow in his air tube.
