851 single seat pads, dimesions/ material etc

changing over the seat unit on the beast this week from DS flavour to a genuine single jobby.( http://i12.ebayimg.com/03/i/02/71/86/05_1_b.JPG )

One small hitch, don't have seat pads.
do any of you guys have the dimesions of both pads, and what best material is to use.
best source of said pads material, need to get things sorted before the weekend if possible.

cheers

Are you going for the genuine "vinyl"look or the foam race type Robin?l

Redsps 21-Sep-2004 23:26

I'm thinking foam might look the better option, more like the race type seats, also a lot easier.
but depends on what is involved going down the vinyl route.

sparkin 21-Sep-2004 23:46

My new seat is foam and is more comfortable than the standard vinyl.

Redsps 22-Sep-2004 00:05

what type of foam is that, what are the thicknesses.

foam does look better, especially in " black " , as do wheels;););)

Talk to Tony Brancato @ brancato engineering 01865891203

The "foam" is between 25mm-28mm thick, send him a template in card of what you want exactly and he`ll cut it for you.My seat came back perfect:D but the bum pad is a fraction small, his fualt, not mine:( so he`s doing me another one.......eventually;)

PS don`t care decided on white:P:lol:

Natty, I have a sneaking suspiscion, that this seat unit (I am collecting tonight) belongs to the guy who was pictured in a very popular duke book, and that he owned an 888SPS and an 851SP3.
but won't be sure until later, he may have other nice goodies for sale, you never know.

Sparkin

If you go the foam route, does it stick on or bolt on like (I assume) the vinyl ones do? I'm just thinking, foam would be thinner than the originals = more room... I just don't want to do anything I can't easily put back to standard. Alternatively, do you (or anyone) know where I could get a thinner bum pad made up?

Thanks

Andrew

sparkin 29-Sep-2004 20:21

What bike are you refering to a 851/888 or a 748/9**?On my 888 I have glued the foam for a customer corse race look, but like you say the vinyl seats bolt on.Converting to a mono on a 888strada (or 851 Robin;) )is a pain,if you don`t beleive me just ask Nat!

sparkin, I'm getting there now mate.
Having picked up the genuine 851 sp single seat unit, chopping the subframe to fit the seat turned out to be a complete no-no.
So Put the plan on hold for a while, luckily managed to get a genuine SP ally subframe (thanks to Rob ).
all fitted now, just need to get some foam pads.
The 6 pot AP Racing calipers and disks I stuck on are brill, a massive improvement over standard units.

will get some pics up shortly.

cheers

Sparkin

Should have said - it's on an 851 SP3.

Redsps 30-Sep-2004 00:05

And that is a very nice SP3 andrew, are you sure you want to start messing about with the seat bits, but it may help resolve your probs mate.
Strange really because i'm 6' 3" tall and find the 851 a better riding posistion all together. I don't feel as though as I'm perched on top , like I did on the 916 based bikes.
From what I heard in general 851/888 circles, taller peeps prefer these said bikes.

anychance of getting a cardboard template of the two seat pads on your SP3 andrew, I need to get some foam items made up, and I'm struggling to find the right shape.

cheer
Robin
