Service costs!

Was in the local Ducati store yesterday, and just out of curiosity looked at the service chart, and how much one of those 749/999 things cost in relation to 748/9*6/998 to service...

It made quite interesting reading.....

748R 2 year/12,000 service around £600
749R 2 year/12,000 service around £860 !!!
999R 2 year/12,000 service around £617
998S 2 year/12,000 service around £570

Why is the 749R the most expensive of the lot I ask myself?:puzzled:

Best start servicing ducati's then!

Maybe Ducati stores think were all as rich as Vman, or that, When were not on our Ducati's were riding around on our pogo sticks.

i may be wrong but i think it needs belt doing every year or 6k too, and i guess its because its just in a higher state of tune so needs more t.l.c.

Ironically, when the 999 was launched, Ducati implied servicing would be cheaper/easier on the new bikes due to them having far fewer parts (cant remember the stats, but it does have loads less components than the 748/9**).

My mate had a 999 in for service the other day and he reckoned there not as easy to work on at all...I think from memory a pair of airfilters was about £60 too..:o

Isn't the "999's are easier to work on" canard based on nothing more than "you don't have to remove the battery to access the cam-belts"?

(Big deal!)

<Nattyboy>
I know Our Mutual Friend curses them, and doesn't like working on them at all, and who am i to argue with an expert?

guest1 28-Sep-2004 18:48

Reading the manual it says that the chain tension adjustment should be carried out at Ducati dealer.:o
If I do it meself, does it invalidate warranty?

How much cost could y' shave off if you took all the plastics off yourself? Or does the pricing not work like that then?
Nelly?

Just had my first service done today on my 749R, total cost including changing the front sprocket to a 14t was £44.00
This included a new oil filter and 4 litres of oil at £6.50 a litre
Is this about the average price for a first service ?

Real McCoy 28-Sep-2004 22:53

did you mean £440 :puzzled:

iang 28-Sep-2004 22:58

No, £44.00 ( forty four )

Real McCoy 28-Sep-2004 23:07

Sounds like you got a good deal mate.Ducati Newcastle must be one of the few dealers still offering a labour free first service.Nice one.
I'm glad to say that Italia Moto do the same.:D

Loz 29-Sep-2004 08:01

CMW at Chichester also do 1st service for the cost of materials only. They did for my two, anyway!

yellowisfriedegg 29-Sep-2004 08:22

The 600 mile service on my R was included in the price of the bike , no charge :burn:

Shirlaws , Aberdeen :D

ScottyB 29-Sep-2004 09:02

Duke Glasgow first service is labour free as well.........

£49 for parts was all i just paid.

They can't make a decent cup of tea though:frog:

iang 29-Sep-2004 10:21

Yes, it was no sunday DIY service, this was a Ducati main dealer who does not charge for labour on the first service if you bought the bike from them.
It included oil change, oil filter, lube, check belts, check torque figures, etc, etc and they fitted my sprocket free of charge but i supplied it.
Overall the bike feels more eager and smoother ( maybe in my mind ) and as it is the first time i have ridden it with the termi fitted much louder than my 999 with the termi fitted ?
The dealer said that the bike as running way too rich so they adjusted it to run a bit leaner.

Dickie, yes that's true, but so does the 748R, so where does the extra £280 or so come from?
