chrome frame. wha d\'ythink?

the frame on my 916 is now a bit sad looking. i was thinking of stripping it down over the winter and having the frame chromed.
has anyone seen a duke like this? i recon it'll look cool with a polished swing arm even with the tank chromed....

or dy'think it'll look too bling bling (crap):puzzled:

no i think it would look really good

gasmanrus 29-Sep-2004 17:10

yeah dogcock(what a name!) thats what im thinking.

as much as i love the way standard dukes look you just see too many about now. a bit of carbon here & there doesnt make your bike stand out anymore.

im still not decided..........:rolleye:

DJ Tera 29-Sep-2004 17:13

Chrome would look a little to Harley mate, go for black :)

AK 29-Sep-2004 17:19

 Go for it!

Join the AK school of bling - his has an 18ct gold swinger in it. (but this was courtesy of ebay, and came out about the same price as a std single sider)

Have you thought about anacoating? - prob better than polishing for long term effect?

Rattler 29-Sep-2004 17:41

Blimey, black-chrome, I had that effect on some Micron cans I had on a RD350LC a few (far too many) years ago!!!

I'll try to dig out some pics.

QUICK...someone get a needle and thread! my sides are splitting.:lol:

ziggi 30-Sep-2004 21:39

I'm well and truely into bling but I'm not sure a chrome frame will work unless you are going all the way and making a show bike like the one posted above.

Go for a theme - yellow with carbon, red with gold, red with black, red with polished, black & carbon etc etc. Mixing it up too much will just look pants.

You could say i'm a bit like the equivalent of "What not to wear" for bikes :D

Does that mean you're obsessed with other people's breasts???
.......I know I am.

...why not get the frame done in Burberry colours? ...you could then be a fully paid-up member of the chav society.
:D

fatduke11111 01-Oct-2004 21:20

Gas - I'm way too easy a target.....:D

Road Runner 01-Oct-2004 22:02

Such a lot of work for a few shiny bits showing ??
:D:D

weeveetwin 02-Oct-2004 00:06

Bit of an idea...

rcgbob44 02-Oct-2004 19:51

I think that to complete the "image" transformation you should install ape hangers and stirrups!!!!!:(

ScottyB 02-Oct-2004 20:11

Gasmanrus,

Depends what you want to "Use" the bike for.

If you plan on showing it then go for it whatever floats your boat, i may get shot down in flames here but the post from weeveetwin actually shows a bike which looks good and would certainly win shows if that's what you want to achieve.

If however you still plan to ride it regularly then i think it would be a pain to keep in tip top condition. Resale value may be affected as well because not a lot of people would share the same desire for shiny bits the same as you. It may end up being a burden rather than a positive selling point.

Some food for thought there for you.

Regards

rcgbob44 14-Oct-2004 21:57

Just seen the location.............."essex" nuff said really.

AK 14-Oct-2004 23:27

Weeveetwin's pic - its perfectly possible, and no need for constant polishing either!

Just get it anocoated chrome, then all you need is a quick 'wipe or rinse over' when you have finished riding.

Ask AK - his monster special takes him the least amount of time to clean, out of all the bikes in the garage. Rinse, wipe over & put away! The tonnes of stainless on his Lawson takes 2 days to get done properly, he doesnt clean the viffer:lol: , and the turbo (which has had to be taken to bits for a refurb) took a while too.
