If you don't mind the potential to set off with the sidestand down. Remove the switch completely, unplug the connector and link the two wires together in the half of the plug that remains in the bike.

Linking the two remaining wires is vital and you need to make sure they stay linked cos the engine won't run at all if they are not joined.

The solutions mentioend by other above make so the engine will run but cuts as soon as a gear is selected/the neutral
light goes out.

test

I did this myself to my 998, and it cost 50p for the diode.

Procedure is to connect a IN4001 diode from the +ve side of the neutral light to the 'Blue' wire side of the sidestand, with the 'striped' end of the diode connected to the neutral light side.

This has worked well for over 12 months and for 50p, a real bargain.

This way means that the engine operates either when the side stand is up, or when both the sidestand is down and the neutral light is on.
hope this helps

I "modified" the switch myself for free when I chucked it down the road after hitting some diesel a few months back:P

thats why yellow panels are more expensive. They have to paint them twice....
