mpg

just curiouse really
what does your bike do to the gallon/litre
how much difference do pipes and chips really make to this figure

mine
totaly standard st2 2001 including sprockets
about 140 between fills
according to my maths thats around 40 mpg or 8.7 mpl

Jools 01-Oct-2004 19:15

My ST2 mostly standard apart from cans, chip and 14 tooth sprocket does about the same (about 140-150 miles between fill ups).

But what's a fill up? Being a wuss who doesn't like pushing bikes to petrol stations I always fill mine as soon as I'm able to once the low fuel light comes on. I usually put about 15 - 16 litres in once the light shows (I know, I know, I've still got 4 to 5 litres left when I fill up which is loads for a 996 pilot) so 140 divided by 15 or 16 is about 8 to 9 ish miles per litre.

It's in the same ball park so pipes, chips and smaller sprockets don't seem to make much difference

MPG

Best achieved with my ST4S (performance cans) was 220 miles on a full tank during return trip from Mugello to UK. Also managed Plymouth to Birmingham (M42 services) over 200 miles.:sing:

It's all about how aggressive you are with the throttle I think. My own bikes (888s) regularly average over 11mpl (50+mpg) when out on a 'bimble'.

Rushjob 01-Oct-2004 20:32

ST4S, lowered gearing, performance cans, TFI injection gizmo, lightened flywheel and me behind the handlebars ..... max I've seen is 158 Plymouth to somewhere on the M5 at a "sensible" cruising speed!
Then again, I was getting 145 miles per tank out of it blatting around the mountains in Spain.
As long as there's enough in it to get me to the next fuel stop I'm not that fussy.
If I wanted fuel economy I'd buy a diesel powered Enfield!

kwikbitch 01-Oct-2004 21:01

Yeah...I think mines about 140 miles between fill ups...I dont really check properly just guessstimate...sometimes it costs me 11 squid sometimes 14...
I still dont really know how far I can let it ride on empty light.
I will probably only let it do about 20-30 odd miles from the light coming on.:)

rockhopper 01-Oct-2004 21:19

ST4, cored cans, 14 tooth front sprocket. I regularly get 170 miles before the light comes on. In France last year i think we averaged 55mpg thats two up, full panniers and a full tankbag.

Many thanks to Nelly for a superb set up job.

fatduke11111 01-Oct-2004 21:24

ST4 - 14tooth upfront, standard cans. Stop/start into London around 120 miles to the tank.

:(

Road Runner 01-Oct-2004 21:55

I get about 110 / 115 miles to before the light comes on I reckon about 40 mpg from my 996.
:o:o

sparkin 01-Oct-2004 22:04

888 50mm pipes,open chip.Steady riding,long run 80-100mph about 48mpg.Wheelspin rideout or trackday 34mpg:D

Glyn 01-Oct-2004 22:21

i know when i first got mine i was often getting 180 miles to the tank near enough 52 miles to a gallon
looks like ive got a bit throtle happy since then, oh well no worse than the rest of you buy sounds of your replys

right next full tank of juice i'll do a likkle hexperamint
im gona be real good no fast acceleration, droping through the gears like a loon, nice gentle throttle action i'll try and ride it like im running her in.

who the hell im i kidding
i'll be bored of that buy the time im off the forcourt:o:lol:

marko 01-Oct-2004 22:48

when I first got my ST4 I got about 175-180, then i fitted cans and chip
and I got 145-150 to a tank thats from when the fuel light comes on .
Since then my 749 does 100-120 to 11-13 ltrs.I haven't worked out the MPG but then does it matter when your having fun.
