Boot reccomendations

Peepers,

What's on yer feet when you ride?

I'm looking for a new set of hoofs and need a few opinions. Had 3 previous sets of vertebra/2 and I don't want to squeak anymore.

TIA

Cheers!

Scott

Alpinestars SMX-3 GoreTex. The nuts.

rockhopper 19-Oct-2004 21:12

If anyone wants some sidi boots then clay cross power sports are selling the vertebra 2 at £100 and the race carbon at £150.

Daytona, best boots I've ever had, zero pose value, but like slippers for comfort (already got the pipe:D)

Scottch 19-Oct-2004 22:04

Thanks for the input guys.

Curious though, what made you choose those boots for you?

Had a look at them all, like the Daytona evo sports so far, but they're a bit on the pricey side.

Looked at the alpinestars, not sure about them - I always thought they were a bit pointy toed? I will have another look at them again though.

No-one wearing dainese tci boots?

AXO?

Spidi?

Cheers!!

Scott

I wear Dainese Axial-Out boots and love them. Light as slippers and with your feet and ankles enclosed in carbon/kevlar, you know they're safe.
They are a little fiddly to get on and the inner safety boot rubs a little on the zips. This was a real problem on the early ones and they were recalled.
They are a £300 boot though. I fell lucky and got a pair for £100 when Carnells closed down. :)
The Daytona's are quality. Probably the best out there.
The TCI's look to be an OK boot to. I haven't tried them or know anyone that has though.

Alpinestars GP supertec's..... Best boots on the planet.....Been there and done the rest .....go try some on you won't want to take them off ;)

antonye 19-Oct-2004 23:09

Why?

I've had a whole range of boot makes, but the last 3 pairs have been Alpinestars. I've got quite wide feet, so the "pointy toes" thing definitely isn't true - just try loads of they on until you find ones that fit properly.

Secondly, I got ****ed off with riding in boots that leak and trying get round
it by waterproofing them, buying ones that said they were waterproof, wearing plastic bags, and so on. I normally wear GoreTex trainers/boots and know they're waterproof, so the idea of a pair of sports boots like the SMX-3 but with a GoreTex liner really appealed to me.

And yes, they do work!

Reason, I could walk in them and worth every ££

PDL 19-Oct-2004 23:36

Oxstar's

Festa748 20-Oct-2004 00:40

i wear alpinestars smx plus's but the oxtars are very good boots too.
Just when you get them please check that they wont bend sideways because if they do in the shop the will with your ankle in.

TP 20-Oct-2004 00:40

I've got the same boots as Antony, Alpinestars Goretex numbers and for the same reason, got sick of waterproofing gimmicks etc and used goretex kit when I was in the Army.

I've even crash tested them for you and caught my leg under the bike so they would scrape more and got my foot caught on the exhaust (see what I do for you mate!) - brilliant boots, I'm staying with Alpinestars.

Oh and, you know I'm not small. I've got a wide foot and they are super comfy.

I been using a pair of Daytona Security Evo for the last 2 years with a black outer for the road and red/white/black outer for the track. They're around £500 in the UK but I managed to get them via a German colleague for c.£300!

I thought that they were the best things ever until I tried some A'Stars SMX and they are the most comfortable boots I've ever worn (but they're BLUE!)

ath748 20-Oct-2004 14:04

Oxtar TCS Evo, very good boot but cr@p in the wet. The velcro is coming loose though now after about 2 years and 12000 ish miles, so am replacing with Daytona Sports Evo GTX at Xmas. That's what Xmas is for...

Ade.

Old Yella 20-Oct-2004 14:50

Oxtar TCS EVO Ti.

Look see here

Very good protection all round.
Took a little breaking in but now there sound.
Not tried em in the wet yet though so will be very interested to see how they perform After your comments Ath748?

Had Dainese Age Out before but they are narrow fitting across the front of the boot.

Also had Alpinestars GP Tech a few years ago, these were very narrow fitting and was told they had addressed this problem over the last few years and started making their boots with a slightly wider sole?

My old Gaernes, Strada Victory Plus, are the most comfy boot I have ever worn but dont seem to have any protection, very flimsy but make excellent mini moto boots cos you can bend your ankle into the position you need without them digging into your leg too much.

Melnie Mouse 20-Oct-2004 14:59

I wear the Daytonas too and I like them cos they're really comfy, and definately waterproof (goretex) had them for 3 years, and the only ones I know of that you can send back for re-soling approx. 50quid and they re-goretex them at same time...

good value for money, actually leather and so comfy...... :)

ath748 20-Oct-2004 15:10

Old Yella - The boots leaked badly at the base of the zip and at the tip of my toes when I was riding my R6, but they don't seem to be quite so bad on the 748. I think the overall position of my feet are now higher up and further back than on the R6, which may explain a little. It could have been a one off though, I've not heard anyone else complain.

Anyway, a pair of Seal Skinz socks would sort it out if you are a wet weather regular.

Ade.

I recently had to throw my beloved Sidi's away after the sole wore through.I fancied a change so I bought some Oxtar TCS Evo boots at the GP.I got them for 30quid off rrp,so was well chuffed. They are pretty supple and bedded in quickly. They are pretty comfy for walking about in too.Only downside is that they squeek like a very squeeky thing from squeeksville! You get some silicone lube in the box,and despite soaking all the spine joints, the're still noisy.
I've also got a pair of AlpineStars SMX boots.(Non goretex)They leak like a sieve and a very uncomfy.I tried a pair of SMX plus on and could'nt bend my foot! How the heck are you supposed to change gear in those? They felt as though they would take months to bed in.

ath748 20-Oct-2004 18:19

WD40 or windolene or Mr Sheen to get rid of the Oxtar squeeks.....

Like you said, bl@@dy comfy boots - can easily wear all day.

Rattler 20-Oct-2004 18:34

Stick with the Sidis and get some WD40!!!

Jon 20-Oct-2004 20:49

I had a pair of Axo's, very comfy but with no real protection. On my last trip up the road I wore through the toe cap. Been out and bought a pair of Sidi's, already crash tested them and was glad I had them on and not the Axo's. I'm pretty sure I would have lost or badly damaged a digit if I hadn't

Road Runner 20-Oct-2004 21:08

Sidi Vertibra for me :bouncy:

Scottch 20-Oct-2004 21:10

Thanks for the input peepsies!!

I've got some sort of a shortlist now at least.

Oxstar - sorry, but no thanks, a couple of good mates of mine have these and they're feedback has been less than favourable.

Sidi - Had several pairs over a few years now, as good as they are I just fancy not squeaking for a while and something different (those new vertigo's look interesting though).

Daytona's - Look great, would be near the top of my list if I knew where a dealer was up here.

Alpinestars - I will go and look at a set of SMX, after the glowing feedback they've had here (which I didn't expect) I'd be daft not to.

Axo's - Shame, but no thanks I want something that offers decent protection.

Spidi's - Worth a look, not sure about dealers though.

Dainese - As spidi's, there's no pro-shop in Scotland - nearest is Newcastle.

Going to Glasgow this weekend, so I'll try and find a few places to try them.

Thanks again for all the input!

Cheers!

Scott
