No! The death of an absolute legend

Sorry to break the news but John Peel died on a holiday in Peru today.
This man was intrumental in bringing the whole spectrum of music to several gerations.
He outlasted all other djs, producers, directors and even some listeners on Radio1 and also broadcast on Radio 4such was his cross-platform appeal.
His Saturday Radio 4 programme from 10 - 11 was magical.
I for one will miss him very much.
He was one of maybe 5 tv, radio show hosts whom I would stop what I was doing to listen / watch. The sort of person you'd invite over to a dinner party to keep everyone enthralled.

Damn

Same here - enjoyed his irreverant style on the Radio, especially Home Truths on R4, and also his contribution to the new music scene. :(

Very sad With the passing away of Bill Nicholson on saturday that is two men who helped influance my life that have gone and will be sadly missed

Guido 26-Oct-2004 21:13

Always remember Peely for playing the more obscure bands and giving them a chance on the 'big stage'. Never forget the Guanabatz doing 'Dynamite' or Pink Peg Slax... Ahhh them were the dayz.

RIP Maestro....that's one helluva void that I don't think can be filled..

Road Runner 26-Oct-2004 21:24

I didn't think he was 65 ! shall be missed for sure.:(:(

Nigel C 26-Oct-2004 21:38

without wanting to sound like a stuck record ditto all the above he had a profound effect on my musical taste and a lot of bands owe him big time for their stardom.

non stop tribute playing now on radio 1 turn off the tv and stick the radio on some class music playing

neilkeogh 27-Oct-2004 12:24

Very sad news indeed,
Some guy texted Radio 1 this morning @530 am as I was driving to the station.

Top life, top bloke, if God is a DJ he'll have to share the deck!

My condolences to his family and friends.

RIP:(

Yes a great, great shame but possibly a blessing as I understand he had a cancer and when you've gotta go quick is gotta be better than slow.

Happy daze listening to JP with my tranny and ear piece under the bed clothes (ooh er missus :o) as a young teenager in the early 70's.

Even a couple of bands from my school managed to get on Peely's show.

JP you will be missed .............. hope you're listening to 'Teenage Kicks' to your hearts content now.

kwikbitch 28-Oct-2004 00:38

I think today Mr Peel would have been nodding his head to the music as he swung his legs on his cloud!

Radio 1 has paid an absolutely amazing tribute to him today...He would have been proud:saint:
