Bodywork question I have just been looking at this bike on ebay and noticed that it has a carbon belly pan. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...723327 1&rd=1 It does not say anything about have new side panels though and I am a bit confused by this. I know that some 998 have a belly pan, but my 2002 748r panels meet underneath even though they are the smooth sides the same as 998. Is it likely that this bike on ebay has just had new side panels or was there some option to have a bellypan that i missed? [Edited on 27-10-2004 by Lily] |
What's the link? |
Ah ha..... I don't think it has... just the photo messing with your eyes |
Yep. Looks, at the very most, it's had a black "panel" sprayed on. The belly pan fairings go right back to the wheel. |
in the details bit though it says it has a carbon fibre belly pan?? |
just looked at it closer and you can see the change and the fasteners so I am guessing it does have one on. |
mmmm............I think you're right. In fact I'm pretty sure you're right. More worrying is that I know the bike :rolleye: I fitted the clutch for him!! Must have had the side panles cut to suit............ |
Only the first small photo came up on here...damn proxy! looked again and have got the full description and more photo's, yep carbon belly pan, looks like he's either swapped lowers also, or more than likely cut them to suit the belly pan, in fact if you look closely at the photo of the l/h side near the side stand you can see the belly pan extends past the end of the panel, not a neat fit like a 996R/998R Bayliss/Bostrom reps. Cut to fit [Edited on 27-10-2004 by jpmercer] |
looks to me like there's a belly pan attached... the panels look standard tho, probably been cut to suit the pan? are you shopping lily? tart :D |
not shopping, just interested. I like the look of the bikes with the bellypan and was wondering how it had been done. anyway, its red!!! why would I want one in red when i have a faster one in yellow :D:devil: |

hmmmm!!!!!! |
Oops! wasn't calling you a tart you know..... was just signing off! |
lol... its okay, now i know who it is!!! |
You can buy those, I've seen them recently, only thing is, I can't remember where!! |
Yeah ive seen them for sale too, could be streamlinecarbon, i think they just sit over the top of the original, well at leats thats what that one looks like to me :biaggi: |
To me it looks like you have to cut your botton pannels where they bend under the bike. The new belly pan has a lip that fits agaist the inside of your panels so you can drill and bolt them together . From the outside it should fit flush. I think anyway:cool: I love the look of that belly pan and want it really badly but im not so sure about cutting my bodywork. Does anyone know an after market place who sell the complete kit? I found this from Ducati ( if you want to cut your stuff) http://www.ducati-spares.com/acatalog/916_bodywork.html [Edited on 29-10-2004 by chris99] |
Lily, The belly pan is an add-on but is mighty expensive if buying from Ducati. If you didn’t want to cut the lower fairing, and I wouldn’t either, you can buy the left and right lower half fairings for a 998s, and the carbon belly pan from the 998s and hey-presto…! Or you can buy two full fairings and the belly pan, as comes standard on the 998r. I think casoli do some fibre-glass moulds for about £300.00 – I think. The first option will set you back the best part £600.00 from Ducati, but they will be the proper bits and come painted (expect the belly pan). Hope that helps. Yellow forever. Fras. |
Looking closely at the pics and knowing the casoli offerings, looks like the 1 piece carbon (or pseudo carbon :D) side panels and belly pan that casoli do with the carbon DUCATI and 748R showing through but they aren't 1 piece they are 2. Very nice they are too imo. You can also see the 998 style vents in the top part of the fairing (you know the cut out parts by riders knees) which I didn't think the 748R had but casoli panels do have. It's also got the casoli single seat with the carbon showing through. [Edited on 29-10-2004 by ziggi] |
Harris do one that fits the original fairings with no need to cut them. It slides inside the original fairing at the front, and then fits flush allong the rest. Bloody expensive though at £250 odd! :o |
Hi Lilly, an old post I know but what did you decide on? I'm just about to dress my 748r with 998r panels (with the undertray), will need to cut the rocker cover hole into the v piece, am interested if you found an easier option to get that undertray look! Has anyone else put an undertray on a 748? Thanks in advance. Mark |
Mark I wasn't looking to change the panels as I run the bike in track bodywork most of the time anyway. Not certain about the v piece as I have a track one which fits wth the track bellypan. If you need to get a new v piece to fit then it might be wirth giving Barry a call rather than hacking at your own. |
