Mobile camera - cant believe it !!!!! I guess I shouldn't be so naive - but it shocked me that last Sunday I took my now regular trip 10 miles or so down the A689 dual-carriageway that runs to my mothers in Hartlepool. This section of the road almost exclusively runs though farming area apart from one small hamlet really, called Newton Bewley. The 1/4 mile stretch that is housed used to be subject to a 60 mph limit (if memory serves me right), while the rest of the road is 70. Of course everyone used to ignore it as it was such a short section until I believe someone was injured on the road (near the only pub but I wont make any assumptions). Then a 50 mph limit was placed on the road and surprise, surprise with the advent of the wonderful money-collecting (sorry, speed) cameras, mobile units started appearing near the end of the 50 limit.....could of been at the start I suppose. However - last Sunday - clocks had just gone back - when to take my mum shopping at 3pm, over cast but still light. I slowed down to 50 as I dare not really take a risk anymore after events this year :flame: Needless to say - Mum's being mums we were being thrown out of Asda when the shop was shutting and I was due to go with my own family to a Halloween party. So - 5:50pm, late as anything - shooting back along the dual-carriageway towards the 50 zone when gut instinct told me not to take a daft chance and slow down. THERE AT THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AT 6PM - IN THE PITCH DARK - WAS A THINK! CAMERA VAN WITH A CAMERA ON A TRIPOD AT THE SIDE OF THE ROAD !!!!!!!:flame: Other motorists were obviously enraged as well as I was not the only one to start flashing and putting hazard lights on to warn on-coming traffic. I have no respect for this 'policing' policy any more - even though I know the poor police have to do a hard job with dwindling resources - this is just plain wrong. Frank |
Three, yes THREE were parked on a bridge over the M20 today I was informed by a work colleague about an hour after I was driving along there. I hopefull I was doing the speed limit. I will wait with anxiety :o:o:o:o:mad: |
I was utterly gobsmacked to be flashed coming back up the A17 from Snetterton yesterday. Best of it was I'm fairly certain it was unrestricted (60mph), and I was doing a steady 50 on the cruise control with a 28 foot caravan on the back. Explain that if you can, be interesting to see what the NIP says if I get one. |
John, if you look at the "safety" camera partnerships web site for the county where the camera was it might tell you what the speed limit was on the road and what type of camera it was. I did that when i thought i'd been caught a while back. |
I've followed a rigid goods vehicle along a single carriageway road with a gatso site - the wagon was running at about 52 mph and it got flashed...not sure if some cameras can now detect vehicle size - if so you may have been mistaken for a heavy! :lol: |
John, there is a web site http://www.e-database.co.uk/ where you can check to see if you were done. It will even let you look at the photo. The user name is tiger and the password is parrot |

http://www.phantomplate.com/ they can't ticket you if they don't know who to send the ticket to. ;) a couple guys on my car web board (v6performance.net) tried this product out and said it works for 6 months before you need to respray it. unfortunately, you also should keep your plate clean because a thick layer of dust will allow the plate to be seen. |
i fell 4 it!!!!:smug: |
:lol::lol::lol: |
theres some new cameras that can detect height so that they can catch speeding lorries, they have a post either side with a radar ( i guess ) that will kick in when the beam is broken we have 1 on the a30 thats a 60 to you or me but its only a 40 to trucks, well apparently a skip lorry went throught the same camera on his run to and fro the watse site and ended up with 7 nip on the same day |

I'm collecting points like they are going out of fashion.... last three months... 48 in a 40.... 46 in a 40... and I have one more pending (no idea what that is yet). All parked up camera vans. Boy do I feel like a criminal... chain me up and throw away the key! Yet when my son got mugged on the train - and the station had recorded CCTV to trace where the buggers got on and off - they couldn't identify them - said the camera's were pointing at their legs!!!! (perhaps they were looking for a registration plate) - how effin' useless is that. Plod clear-up rates better...my a*se. Quite frankly I don't care which branch of the plod is suppose to deal with it either (traffic, local, met) they are still all plod to me. Boy they really do f' me off....colloboation between the councils and plod really is too cosy, revenue-seeking nazi's... :mad::flame::mad: [Edited on 6-11-2004 by fatduke11111] |
