My first car was one of these ... |
tp check out BIG sam a 240 z samurai i converted it back in the early 80's at one point in time i had a 240z 260 2+2 and a 200 Z fairlady (us spec ) sold out to william galliers at shrewsbury see if i can scan in some pics 4 ya ! ps yours was a nice example |
2.8i Capri, lowered, twin Janspeed exhaust. yeh I know it's a Ford but it sounded nice, loadsa torque & rear wheel drive. Mate had a 240Z just like TP's, definately a better handling car. |

That one wasn't mine unfortunately but it looked very similar to mine, I don't have any pics any more :( Mine was a '75 260Z 2+2 .. but it had a few extra's ... like a 280ZX (injected) motor ... 300ZX seats and steering wheel ... :D I want another one, this time with the 1UZ-FE in it (lexus/toyota alloy 4.0L V8) with a Sprintex twin-screw supercharger on it. Good for over 400 horsies without tuning ;) Porsche eater for under $20k AUD (thats around 5p to you lot!) |
Bearing in mind I am older than you lot-look at the front page if you don't believe me-most of my cars were classics compared to you'se. Learned to drive in my dads Morris Oxford Traveller, 1955 4 speed column gearchange, drove my mums Morris Minor-not a minor 1000 mind but the old 850 sidevalve job-that was my first car. I had a T60/4 Berkeley 3 wheeler before that-like a mini E-type with 1 wheel on the back and a mighty 325cc Excelsior 2stroke twin engine, front wheel drive as well. It went very well for a little 'en, good cornering too, it was about the only 3 wheeler you couldn't turn over-and yes we did try. Mate of mine had a 3 wheel Reliant, we could get that onto 2 wheels in a straight line-scary or what-although we didn't think so at the time......... I then progressed through a Mini Cooper, Cooper S 1340, Frog Eye Sprite complete with 1600cc half race MGA engine-always breaking halfshafts that one-Mk2 3.8 Jag, Triumph TR3A, Renault 16, 6 VW beatles of various capacities. Then I got a company car and haven't owned a car for over 30 years. I have owned loads more than named but those were the major ones. John |
Morris Marina coupe in 1984 Mini Clubman in 1984 (drivers' door fell off..!) Mini Van in 1985 (blew up..!) MG Midget in 1986 (rust bucket..!) MG B GT in 1987 |
1959 Ford Fairlane, 312 CI cruise machine, morphed into a 390 Ci with beefed auto trans, metallic brakes, koni shocks, morphed into a twin four barrel carbed, high lift cammed, hi-comp piston monster, 1956 Chevy with straight six. USed to carry my Suzuki dirt bike in the back seat area and also a great little dirt tracker (very very pre WRC) 1957 Ford Fairlane Salesman sedan with original straight six bought from a stripper for 25 yankee dollars, used for commuting to college, then morphed into a 7 liter (406 CI) early Nascar engined street racer, heavy springs, koni shocks, metallic brakes, 4:11 rear limited slip, light as hell and uglier to boot. 1964 Chevy with 283 CI V8, that stood up to immense abuse during graduate school. 1975 Mazda pickup truck, 1300 CC for hauling gear and bikes around. Sporty urges were handled by Kawasaki A-1 and A-7, and awesome 350 that champed through lots of long hard miles. Gee, Europe sure is a different place! |
vw beetle as my first car then a renault 5 st while i saved up for my dream car............. escort xr3i :D well i do come from essex, and i loved it. still my favourite car taking into account the age i was when i had it etc. |
First car was a 1500cc 1968 Beetle Then a SAAB 900 16v Turbo Ren 19 Turbo Fiat Punto Turbo BMW 325i Evo 3 Now a POLO GTi (which is fookin quick, ask Dave W!) Few of the cars worth mentioning. |
Mk 1 Escort (with 2 litre engine thrown in it, and original 1100 brakes:o ) Followed by Fiat 126 then Cortina Mk 2, with twin choke Webber carbs & other go faster bits Couple of capri's (I loved the 3 litre one!:D ) Then a selection of whatever was in for sale...... I'd still like to get a 126 to 'customise' just for fun now...... C |
I'm with Nigel C on this one, the first car(?) I had was a Sherpa van to carry my race bike. Any money spent on cars is money that could have been spent on my bike, so I leave the cars to my wife, one car is enough. |
My first car ..... A Morris Ital 1.7hl in doom blue with fluffy seat covers !:o oh, the shame of it ! I shall hand over to Dave now to list his Capri years !....... |

Hmmmm.... First car Nissan Micra Second Vauxhall Astra .....fortunately my taste in cars improved after that! |
my first car I had whilst I was doing my VW Beetle up, was a Mark 1 Escort, 1300E purple metallic, with black vinyl roof and walnut dash.... it was lovely... When I finished my Beetle, I had that for almost 9 years.. and he was lovely.. My dad taught me how to weld and friends taught me how to do my own servicing - except the points, I could never get the hang of that... and although I used to hate it in Winter when ice formed on the INSIDE of his windscreen, I loved that car..... :) Very sad when he went, but I traded it in for a bike you see - Honda Bros 400 at the time!!! :D :) |
Dickieducati, There was a time in the mid-eighties that I would have happily committed murder for a black xr3i with gold wheels.. But remember Sierra's? - during that time you couldn't turn 360% in any highstreet without seeing at least five. Are they all dead?:puzzled: |
My first vehicle was a bike,a Suzuki A50 Mark 2(predecessor to the AP50),but parents put pressure on me to get a car(they must have seen me ride!) 1.Ford Escort MK2 Harrier(some barsteward nicked it,so i went out & got another one) 2.Ford Fiesta MK2 XR2 3.Ford Escort MK3 RS1600I 4.Ford Fiesta MK1 XR2 5.Transit van(to carry race bikes around) 6.Ford Sapphire Cosworth 7.Ford Sierra RS500 8.BMW M3 EVO 9.Another Sapphire Cosworth 10.Mitsubishi Lancer EVO6 You'd think i'd grow up at my age wouldn't you! |
Never had a car until i was 30, just a couple of truly dreadful vans used for courier work, the worst being a Marina van that defies description without every word being censored. First actual car was a Peugeot 205 GTI, awesome after diesel vans and a lot more fun than quite a few bikes of the CX500/BMW ilk. |

And I've been in some of them when it's wet and he's needs to be somewhere quick. HEEEEEELP!!!!!!!!! |

Hillman Minx "A" reg (when the letter followed the number);) |
Hey Ck are you me? I had a mk 1 Escort went through 1700cc twin dcoe's etc on to a 2.0 pinto. Then on to a couple of 3.0gtxlr's mk 1.5 Capris............. |
Hey Mav, those pictures are so small.............were they Corgi cars :lol::lol: I loved the old Lotus Cortina though This was my first car............1966 Mini Cooper 998 Great car but not too good for sh*gging in. Taking precautions in them days meant opening the windows :lol::lol: |
Quote:
All those years ago and you had the foresight to choose the right engine size:lol: |
I followed up the Mini with a Ford Escort Estate Mark 1. Now that was an OK car but it was great for sh*gging in :P:burn: |
Then I had three of these, one after the other and all different shades of yellow. This colour was called Sandglow I believe. I destroyed all three  but it taught me very early on that YELLOW is not the right colour. [Edited on 9-11-2004 by everton] |
Would you look at that..............I've reached a 1,000 posts. Anyway the great thing about the Dolly Sprint was the Laycock Overdrive operated by a slide button on the gear knob. They were flying machines with a 16V 2.0L engine.........brilliant in a straight line but just wouldn't go round corners.............hence why I managed to destroy 3!! :D:smug: |
everton ! i wondered who it was that bought one of those :lol::lol::lol::lol: |

The Volvo Amazon was written off too but that was intentional! I own a small business supplying fruit machines etc to Pubs and Clubs. And every know and then I get a skip and scrap maybe 10 to 20 machines that are no longer "siteable". Well one hot summer day as I was waiting for the skip to arrive one of my friends arrived and we had a few beers in the sun, and then a few more and so on and so on! The conversation turned round to the Volvo and what to do with it as it had just failed its MOT. Well you can guess what the conclusion was? Rather than spend hours in the sun with a sledgehammer breaking the machines up we used the volvo! I dont think I have ever had so much fun in the whole of my life! We must have spent at least half an hour taking increasingly faster runs through the lines of machines until the car after losing all its water along with half the radiator stopped dead never to run again. Silly but fun. By the way this all took place on private land. |
