Idea\'s - Holiday in the sun?

I'm cruising the internet at the moment looking for good deals to spend two weeks in the sun. Not too fussed about location, it's more about having sunshine and the temp's to be over 20 degree's.

The whole family is going so thats me, my wife Ange, and the four kids aged 4 - 11. I've found one I really would like to do - Egypt in Taba Heights. Only it would cost £4800 for the 2 weeks (flights from Gatwick and half board) . I've only just stopped choking!

The biggest problem is that it has to be done during school holiday's so we would be leaving around Dec 17/18.

Any idea's? Remember, MUST be warm and cost around £2k - £3k - but not bloody £5k!!!

Only joking !

dickieducati 16-Nov-2004 14:43

the canairies???

only trouble being its the canairies

TP 16-Nov-2004 14:57

hrmm .. Dubai .. might start looking at that.

To be honest I haven't looked at holiday prices to go home but seeing as it takes so long to get there it kind of rules it out for me. Plus, I want to see more of the rest of the world before I go home and can't afford to go anywhere again :(

JPM 16-Nov-2004 15:06

You not fancy a nice winter ski trip or something?

Mate - I NEED sun!!

JPM 16-Nov-2004 17:08

Well you'd get your head tanned, be cold, but your head would be brown

It's not a tan I'm after, it's warmth and the ability to go swimming and sit on a beach. I haven't done that since I left home and when you've grown up on the Gold Coast you kind of take it for granted that you can go to great beaches whenever you want.

I haven't been home for over 2.5 years and I need to go and sit on a beach .. I'm beach-sick!

Brazil? how's that this time of year?

Is Tim back yet? he was off to Jamaica wasn't he?

We were talking about Brazil earlier .. I haven't checked flight prices for them yet but will do ...

Not sure where Tim went - I thought it was to auction with 'my' panel ...

JPM 16-Nov-2004 18:17

Funny that, give him the panel, never to be seen or heard of again.... Hmmm

TP 16-Nov-2004 18:18

Found some £1600 per adult return flights to Rio ... hrmmm ...

chicken 16-Nov-2004 18:56

Phuket, Thailand gets my vote every time for a relaxing sunny hol.

Flights might be the tricky part, but accomodation, food, drink and souvenirs very cheap. Lots of beaches and activities for the kids.

My work means I've stayed in a lot of hotels over the years but the Meridien Yacht Club (south side of Phuket) is definitely in my global top 3. With 4 kids the budget might not be realistic here (especially as rates double in December), but sunset dinner on the deck is an absolute must.

u2u me if you want more info (or you could even talk to me at the drinks next week!)

cheers, Chi

Sorry...got to disagree with all these big time Asia type holidays. You are thinking of adults! Save that for you and Ange and romance.
The kids want a beach and the sun and some interesting buildings.
Greece...your eldest son would have just done his topic on the greek Legends and will be into the Minotaur, mosaics and the byzantines etc
The greeks love kids...the taverners are open till whatever time you leave and the family feeling is Fantastic.
Also, if you take your kids to such fantastic places HOW are they gonna appreciate them with their limited understanding and empathy...AND what dreams will they have when they are uni and want to travel?
Also it's only Europe...short flights, Ange wont be hassled by trying to keep the kids organised in the departure lounge and it will be cheap, you'll save yourself a few grand and the kids will remember it for the family time it is.

:)

Sorry, just adding some extra thoughts...I have a lad in my class who has been everywhere with his grandparents.
He's 7 years old and Just come back from Mexico.
I asked him what he did. ALL he could remember was playing on the beach and being by the pool. Grandma obviously had a different story.
He came back from Rio last september...and ALL he could remember was the beach and the pool.
That travelling experience with Grandma and Grandpa REALLY enriched his life and his understanding of the world!;)

Went to Brazil Oct 2003 (Air France £760) also try a company called Journey Latin America for good holiday deals.

Just got back from Cuba £1100 flight and accomodation (Havana & Trinidad) again via Journey Latin America...

Brazil & Cuba are hot this time of year, both cheap as chips once you are there, Brazil is stupidly cheap.

Henners 16-Nov-2004 21:31

Florida ...

... go visit Mickey - they'll love it

WeeJohnyB 16-Nov-2004 22:02

Sit the kids in front of the TV, give Ange a grand to go shopping and pamper herself and buy a decent race bike with the remainder.....you know it's the right thing to do. As soon as you step off the plane in England, you'll wish you had a lovely race bike to go home to.

She'll understand mate:lol:

Cuba might be one to check out. Went there last year and if you want you can split the holiday into two experiences - first week live like (and with) the locals by staying in Havana or Trinidad or even further south, and then in the second week do an "all inclusive" beach resort where everything is laid on.

MJS 17-Nov-2004 07:52

Cuba's the one.... we're planning to go in February... unless we go somewhere else :puzzled:

chicken 17-Nov-2004 08:51

Sorry Lisa - Greece is lovely but 20 degrees at xmas is probably pushing it!

Agree that the kids will only remember the beach though.

misterpink 17-Nov-2004 11:58

went to Cuba in august with 3 kids, all-inclusive and it really was al inclusive - rum cocktails all day and as strong as you like as you have to nod to the barman when to stop pouring. The beaches hot, locals friendly and kids had a fantastic time - no cultural learning experiences this time just pure fun,sun and swimming - although they did learn spanish. had to dodge hurricanes and got delayed 4 days on the way back!

What sort of price dood?

misterpink 17-Nov-2004 11:59

oh yeah i forgot it cost £700 each flights/transfers etc etc - a real bargain.:burn:

TP 17-Nov-2004 12:02

Not bad I suppose - but it's still £4200 ... I wonder if they would increase the price somewhat because of the period.

Who did you book through? I'll check it out.

Thanks MP.

nathanhu 17-Nov-2004 12:03

you could always come with me to the Falklands.......

i hear the weather is lovley this time of year.......................

summer has just started........ill be packing my swim cossy!!!!!
cant beat swimming in the sea on new years day;)

misterpink 17-Nov-2004 12:26

we booked thru a friend of ours her name is sue starr and works for gadabout travel her number is 0208 445 54 50 and she is in the office from 9:30 tomorrow. we went to varadero which is not "real" cuba, just hotels/beaches etc but nice not tacky. check the weather though - this time of year could be windy which is not good
another option but further to fly(but same time zone) is south africa - nice cos you can have a week by the beach(nice dry heat) then a game park/off road adventure ride type of week -hmmmm sounds good might have to see if the piggy banks are full.

JasonBoswell 17-Nov-2004 12:30
