weight saving

after having the bike weighed at oulton it came in at 165 kg's

there's nothing on the bike that doesn't need to be
alloy front sub
single underseat exhaust
trimmed electrics

got me thinking how i could shed a little but apart from a race battery and the alloy swingarm i've been scratching my head a bit.

did anyone get anywhere near the magic 150 or is it going to be damn near impossible

anyone got any weightsaving tips they'd care to share?

My class B bike was 152 then added another disc to make it legal at 154. My class A is 157Kg I think Dallas has me beat on weight and the track.

did you do anything special to get it down to that

i'm thinkin battery and swingarm would save me another 3 kg .. that's still 6 kg over yours then:confused:

Battery can be a big one, tank another as phils is grams not kilos ;) swing arm not massive, bodywork can be a lot (my 998 fairings are probably a good 5 kilos) extra disc Dallas doesnt have with a caliper can be another few kilos....all adds up

Bally I've been at it since 2008 its just an iteration progression. As you are in the same class as me I can't start giving tips to make it easier for you. I'm old and need any advantage I can get. :D

He did at Oulton, as he is now running twin Brembo Clubman discs, with radial 4-pad calipers
Steel tank is a big weight saving on the plastic ones be it a Monster Steel tank or a 916 tank like Dallas's. His Inconel exhaust mated to a carbon can is probably one of his biggest weight saving advantages over many of the bikes on the grid.
Although most of the guys that have done the Class A winning over the years have bikes weighing a fair few Kilos more than Dallas's

i'll best tanks don't come cheap .. had noticed a lot of you use the older ss tanks in pref to the newer ones .. is there much between them?

did consider going naked but i like the look of the 1098 fairings and i find them useful in a crash

Spjallen 25-Jun-2012 08:26

Mines a right lard arse, 171 kgs!

bradders 25-Jun-2012 08:56

Have a search n the forum, Skids and some other have put weights up Of tanks etc

Fwiw plan was to change my monster tank for a 916, junk air box and lithium battery instead of gel ne fitted ( I have all the bits) and that little lot saves c6-7 kilos alone right under your chin. But as I may not be racing again....

dunlop0_1 25-Jun-2012 10:04

Makes no difference my 185kgs was still almost unbeatable. Only Angry Challis got lucky once or twice.

185kgs Did you have a lead fairing??

bradders 25-Jun-2012 16:31

He only had 20 hp too ;)

Spjallen 25-Jun-2012 18:05

I'm not spending anymore on weight saving on the bike, but looking at spending that money on track time and tyres. Loosing weight myself would be cheaper, saves money on the weekly shop!!

Double bonus

weight savings not cost me a penny so far .. apart from maybe going to the underseat pipe .. but the that was just an added bonus in my mind

so that means you've got 6 kg's to lose for free .. Have you taken the lights off?

bradders 25-Jun-2012 21:35

Underseat pipe costs weight bless its ti, as you need more pipe work I reckon than a simple out the bottom can

Weight becomes an issue if 2 fairly equal riders and one has considerable weight difference. And it must be true that's all they talk about on Eurosport with moto 2!!

Na the pipe lengths are designed to be the same so you just lose the weight of a can

Aparently if you tuck your elbows in it's worth 9 seconds a lap or something like that:lol:
