TP 03-Dec-2004 21:25

Fair enough.

I had tickets to see Pantera in Sydney in '94 but ended up going home to the Gold Coast for a lads week instead.

clint 03-Dec-2004 21:38

No Clint, it's just that you rock and they don't :D

I was listening to back in black earlier today.

clint 03-Dec-2004 21:49

I recently bought a dvd recorder and i have been bouncing down my old vhs tapes. Found some great old live Bonnnnnnn stuff, rock goes to college must be 79/80 man oh man.

rockhopper 03-Dec-2004 23:37

I saw the Scorpions at Donnington years ago. Superb, as were AC/DC, Gary Moore, Motorhead etc.

Propper music!

BDG 04-Dec-2004 00:26

I said i love heavy metal

are you deaf or summat.

Went to see White Snake on Monday at Manchester Apollo.
Brilliant seedy, small ish intimate venue with good accoustics. Far better than any of the big venues.

MEN arena is OK but Gmex in Manchester must rate as one of the worst places i've ever been to for live bands, glad its not used any more.

Rattler 04-Dec-2004 00:30

I remember seeing Judas Priest on the "British Steel" tour back in god knows when - they were supported by Iron Maiden I think. If I remember correctly, the tapes used to record the British Steel album they were supposed to be promoting were stolen before the album went into production and JP ended up playing virtually the whole of the Unleashed in the East live album - superb.

I've seen Judas Priest quite a few times and the Scorpions a couple of times, that was when both of the Shenker brothers were in the band.

I did see most of the bands in the early 80's - Motorhead, MSG, UFO, Ted Nugent, Sammy Hagar, Rainbow, Rush, Pat Benatar, Kiss, etc, etc, but my favourite was always AC/DC - fantastic.

Blimey aren't I old!!!

I love a bit of metal too.... Not too keen on the thrash metal ( Pantera and the likes ) but am very partial to Metallica and then the softer types, Def Leppard, Skid Row etc !

Even just saying these names brings back fond memories of my frequent visits to the SteamHouse Pub for rock night on Sunday ! aaaahhhh.....:D:D:D:D:D:D

well this thread makes me feel old as it got me think about how music was in my day!!!!

First saw AC/DC in 1978/9?, - Bonn Scott days, - Powerage or Highway to Hell tour, - Hammersmith Odeon, - 6 rows from the front, - aged 14. I still have the ringing in my ears, - seriously! Saw them every tour from then for abot 10 years, - still got the 1980 Back in Black tee shirt, - still got loads of programs. Saw them support The Who once, along with some unknown called Brian Adams. I saw Def Leppard as support, then as an unsigned band, - 2 arms and Joe Elliot as a fat spotty kid!

Ozz 04-Dec-2004 20:52

Hell yes! Seen a few: Rush (not that heavy I know), Maiden, Ozzy, Scorps, Alice Cooper, ACDC.

Hells - you get down the Mr Kyps a lot for the tribute bands? Some cracking ones there, best ones being ACDC one, Maiden one and Limehouse Lizzy who were at Brands WSB in 2003 and were awesome (Ask Desmondo as I called him with my mobile and let him listen - he loved it (Not))

BDG 05-Dec-2004 01:15

der, der der der dah der dah ANGUS

fatduke11111 05-Dec-2004 02:10

Quality - I managed to see...
Lynryd Skynrd
Alice Cooper
The Who (Not Metal but sooperb - without the Moon the loon though)
The Tubes (Not metal but Rock)- (White punks on dope) 'effin brilliant stage act they had...

I know we aren't voting but if we were...
Best Bass players in the world - Billy Sheehan, John Entwistle (Gawd bless 'im)
Best Guitarists - EVH, Paul Gilbert and Steve Vai
Best Drummers - Ian Paice, Jon Bonham

best concert for me must be Thunder at Hammersmith Odeon.
Thunder aren't top of my "best band" list, but the did one hell of a concert. David Coverdale came by and did a song (he brought Tawny with him which made it even better!) And then Rick Allen came on to do a solo... drinks with the band afterward too :D

Saw an amazing set by richi sambora at wembly - not a good venue, too big for a decent atmosphere, but an unbelievable guitar solo.

Now just waiting for Floyd to do a come-back tour!!

My missus still owes you a rear lamp by the way:eureka:

doogalman 05-Dec-2004 10:08

Best i saw was Van Halen in 77' i think . First gig ever by them in uk at the "Rainbow" in finsbury green, Bloody excelant. Front row we were. Support was The Tom Robinson Band and they got jeered off. Other faves would have to be Ted Nugent, Deep Purple (original line-up), And rainbow.

We have an excellent ACDC tribute band locally they are called ACDO! They are playing at Paradise Island in Burnley either this or next Sunday afternoon. I am not sure which as their website says it the 12-12-04 but I was in the pub last nite and they had a poster up saying they were on today! They only play Bon Scott era stuff so no Back in Black etc. They are worth watching and pretty close to the real thing. Have seen ACDC many times since 1981 at Donnington (as a 15 year old) Also Iron Maiden with Paul Dianno singing. Whitesnake in 1980 and 1981. Loads more in early 80s. Rush, Alice Cooper, Magnum (remember them?) Van Halen, Motorhead, Saxon, Gary Moore, Thin Lizzy, Ramones, Hanoi Rocks, Johnny Thunders, The Ian Gillan band, Motley Crue, Ratt, Cheap trick. Loads more at various Donnington and Reading festivals. I had a school mate whos dad was a partner of Phil Mcintyre promotions who put on most of the early 80s Rock bands so we used to get on the guest lists for all sorts of bands. He was a very popular lad at school!

I am going to phone Paradise Island and find out when ACDO are on, anyone interested in going?

See these guys...

if you like your Hendrix,ZZ top or good rock and blues, these geezers are the kippers tits, lost count of the number of times i have seen them...http://www.thehamsters.co.uk/main.php

baylissboy 06-Dec-2004 13:13

Not really into that stuff, but i've been forced to listen to Led Zepplin(by the missus),must admit i would have loved to see them live!

neilkeogh 06-Dec-2004 13:36

Amonst many others I got to see Led Zep at Earls Court when I were a lad, also saw Deep Purple at Lewisham Odeon!

All seems a long time ago now!! :)

Dukerob 06-Dec-2004 13:55

Grew up on Whitesnake, Ready an Willing Tour, Gillan at Derby Assembly Rooms and Nottm Rock City, Motorhead on the Bomber tour, too many Donington Monsters Of Rock gigs to remember and of course Motley Crue, Van Halen, Poison, Slaugher, Extreme, then Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Alice In Chains etc.......

I saw Richie Kotzen at Music Live at the NEC the other week (same weekend as the bike show!) and he was superb, check out his last CD 'Get Up' its very Hendrix with Chris Cornell vocals !
If you like you're heavy rock traditional a la Rainbow, Purple etc check out Cornerstone with Dougie White on vocals (ex rainbow), its very circles and rings, dragons and kings but Kasper is great on guitar, met him in Sheffield the other weekend playing guitar for Mike Tramp, all Mike's recent solo stuff is worth a listen, especially if you were a White Lion fan.

If you don't fancy any of that stuff have a listen to one of our tracks Music Everyhere its a bit more funky.....

[Edited on 5-12-2004 by fatduke11111]

Very true, Sheehan and Entwistle are good. But turn the old soundcard up and listen to THIS if you want to hear a bass maestro. It's Jeff Berlin, one of my favourite all time bass players. A bit too jazzy for this listing, but he has played and jammed along live on stage with the likes of Van Halen - hey, when you can play like this you can play anything.

I like Heavy Rock, but more of the old school Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Rainbow, Sabbath type stuff that were big when I were a lad. Lucky enough to have seen em all live. Funnily enough though the two LOUDEST bands I've ever seen were Wishbone Ash who came a close second to XTC. Several orders of magnitude louder than any metal band I've seen :o

neilkeogh 06-Dec-2004 15:26

It would have to be Jack Bruce for me, Cream ............those were the days:)

clint 06-Dec-2004 15:30

Had a bit of bonfire this morning. AHHHHHHHHH
What a box set.:o

Dukerob 06-Dec-2004 15:31

for loud, go see JET or THE DATSUNS both young bands in a pretty traditional style, both blew my head off this year (Datsuns could've been last year actually)....superb !! You know what they say 'If its too loud you're a c**t !'

Steve M 06-Dec-2004 17:52

certainly do

fatduke11111 06-Dec-2004 19:48

Jools - pretty cool matey...but a bit too jazzy for me and a bit too maestro centric i.e. the band built round him.

I'm up for the individualists who make a bit of a noise together and Billy does it for me - takes your fillings out.

Get hold of Mr.Big's version of 'Burn' - Billy plays the Keyboard solo - ON THE BASS - it is awesome.... love the guy and he's mental.
