Xmas competition. Name that bike & win..!

Hi guys and gals

Things being a bit slow in the run up to Xmas, how about you proving yourself a complete bike anorak by identifying a mystery bike from a snippet of photo? If it's not guessed immediately, I'll post further snippets each night @ around 10pm, until such time that someone identifies it. I'll give a further clue as to its identity with each posting. The first guy/gal to get it right wins a full colour (30" x 20") poster of their own bike absolutely free! Wahey..!! Now who says there ain't a Santa..?

(Mystery snippet & clue coming with my next post)

yeti 16-Dec-2004 23:53

OK, here's the first snippet of photo. More revealing shots will follow later. The clue is..

Redsps 17-Dec-2004 01:13

nope, hailwood and pantah have gold wheels I think:puzzled:
I rekon it's a 1977 ducati 500GTL..

or ....... somethingy.

rockhopper 17-Dec-2004 07:46

and neither of them had push rods!! So which bikes had ohv and pushrods? Harleys, early hondas, Enfields and hat kind of stuff.

Redsps 17-Dec-2004 09:11

I was ignoring thre clues mate, that pic shows what looks to be a newish ducati wheel design.
;)

clues may be misleading.

rjc_S4R 17-Dec-2004 09:54

I thought Harley but the wheel doens't look right, so I'll stab a guess at an early CX500.

Steve M 17-Dec-2004 10:14

Second snippet..

No luck yet with any of the guesses, but maybe this will give it away. As you can see, the downpipes are very distinctive on this machine! The second clue is..

'Big brother's lesser known twin.'

ducv2 17-Dec-2004 22:47

mv augusta 350 sport

[Edited on 17-12-2004 by ducv2]

weeveetwin 17-Dec-2004 23:23

Wahey!! We have a winner! Correct guess ducv2. Conclusive proof - if it was needed - that all the biggest bike anoraks live in the North East!

And for the less knowledgeable of you (less sad even??) here's a full photo of the bike in question. Pushrod engine, kick-start, and twin-cylinder brother to the original 4cyl MV 750s.

Now ducv2, all that remains is that you e-mail me your best (biggest!) bike pic and I'll turn it into a poster for you. Bear in mind that the quality of the finished item depends largely upon the quality of the original image. Get in touch, and we'll sort out the details. Here's my e-mail address: steve@robins888.fsnet.co.uk

Tough luck to the rest of ya!

Steve

That's sweet Steve - I like the grill style side panel.

Well done Ian - time to dig out some of them Croft piccies eh?

Regards - Frank

Just remember - unless you have the permission of the photographer you are in both in breach of international copyright rules.

Unless you are the originator of the image you will be breaking the law.

As a photographer I take a very dim view of others abusing my images so be VERY careful, so - if it's a track day image taken by a.n.other you both could be shafted - and rightly so.

Just a shot across the bows as a reminder.

Tim,

You are of course correct but... this is a very generous and commercially harmless gift/prize that hardly warrants reference to International copyright law.

To produce a poster 20"x30" you will know that the image will need to be 200-300dpi and a fair size to get a decent image. Not easy to come by unless you took it yourself, but then again some of us to tracks with our 'friends' who would never consider legal action against one another (albiet a fun ideas for the new year).

Im sure you mean well with your words of caution but making one poster is hardly hurting anyone now is it? (Unless of course it turns out to be one of your pictures :D:P and then gets sold on for masses of cash :D)

Seasons greetings to one and all.

Mark

ducv2 22-Dec-2004 00:04

Steve, you have U2U, Ian, P.S. the helmet gave it away.
Frank, afraid the croft photos are copyrighted, not so sure i want to look at myself any way.

Albie 22-Dec-2004 00:17

I cant believe how small those disc brakes were in those days. Havent we moved on .:D
