I Robot question

Anybody got any idea why the MV Agusta in I Robot appeared in black with Cagiva emblazoned down the side?

Were they genuinely hoping to disguise the bike, or was it MV's parent company paying big bucks for product exposure.

Sadly the latter I feel........ :(

I dont watch films where even the title doesnt make sense!!

kwikbitch 22-Dec-2004 23:57

I never noticed that Cagiva was down the side....
It did look STUNNING though....SPECIALLY with Will Smith on the back of it....SIGH:cool:

Anyway...dont Cagiva Own MV and husquvarna (probably spelt that wrong!)...?
Surely...if they have sponsored a film they are gonna have their name stuck on the side of the bike???

If you were Tamborini one of the greatest bike designers of all time IMHO, surely you would slap the name of your employer on the side of your design:D

Even the early Moto GP models were Ducati's but badged Cagiva....The parent company.

(But then only a humble girlies opinion...someone will come and put me right...I'm sure!)

Shame he doesn't badge the bikes with his own name...

I'm gonna look for the screen shot now...(only so I can ogle Will Smith again!!!!)

Erm...Haven't Cagiva always been bigger than the companies they have taken over...Haven't their employed Designers always delivered.....???
Appreciate the company that made DUCATI a Household ICON...and are probably doing the same for MV by sticking it in a top 10 movie like the texans did with the Ducati in the Matrix.......:)

kwikbitch 23-Dec-2004 00:21

Sorry Yeti...after all that it doesn't say Cagiva....
It says SPR...whoever that is? Doesn't even advertise the fact that is MV.:(

kwikbitch 23-Dec-2004 00:24

Oh!...and apologise for my gobbiness at this time...half a bottle of Irish cream stuff, you see!:D:P;)

kwikbitch 23-Dec-2004 00:28

AND...At least they put it in it's proper colour....BLACK!!!!!!!!
:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol: :lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

NBs996 23-Dec-2004 00:32

can't see anythink about cagiva either... and the Fox trailer won't let me cut a piccy! Not even an AltGrPrtScrn

And why is it chicks can get away with a bit of gobbiness lisa?
Nice legs, by the way. Ahhh... question answered!

kwikbitch 23-Dec-2004 00:34

I tried that too! It wouldn't even let me print screen!!!!
Do you know...I'm so demure and quiet when I haven't had a drink...BUT...You know I'm right!!!!
;)

AND who are SPR????? It wasn't a company in the film....?

kwikbitch 23-Dec-2004 00:36

Nice legs.....? You are so Kind!!!...now I'm blushing

Brent 23-Dec-2004 00:41

The SPR is the expensive/faster version of the 750...

kwikbitch 23-Dec-2004 00:45

Oh........Thank you Brent, I didn't know that!!!!!!...
Does look nasty on the side (YUK)
It gives it a bit of a shell suit appearance IMHO.

What does it stand for/mean then??? Or is that a Blonde question???:D:P:lol:

[Edited on 23-12-2004 by kwikbitch]

Brent 23-Dec-2004 00:48

It looks better in real life - also it's 15 grand, and I'm going to win the one up for grabs in the current Bike Mag competition...!!!

But I don't know what it stands for, so clearly not a blonde question! (you're not anyway)

It's the panto season so...

Oh no you won't....!

:D

The CRC logo on MV's stands for "Cagiva Research Corporation ",as that was the old Co,as it's changed hands & ownership that many times,it's possible that it's an old design/pic,& was in CRC's hands when the pic's were taken !!! just a thought john !!

:puzzled:

antonye 23-Dec-2004 10:52

CRC is also on the original 916 airtubes (didn't we discuss this earlier...!) as most of the design work for that too came from Cagiva who owned Ducati at the time.

JPM 23-Dec-2004 10:58

SPR wasn't that the final all singing all dancing MVF4S?

Seen one in the flesh, sorry QB no Will Smith to be seen anywhere!

antonye 23-Dec-2004 11:09

CRC is "Centro Ricerche Cagiva" which is Cagiva Research Centre in English. Handy that the initials stay the same...!

yeti 23-Dec-2004 11:23

Have got the movie on dvd and am certain it says Cagiva, will take another look at it and get back to you all.

Fully understand all that KB says about parent company and all that, but it does seem stupid when they trying to re-launch MV as a brand in it's own right and then take away all the associated publicity but disguising it as a Cagiva

You obviously never read Isaac Asimov then RH, shame cos they were very good books considering when they were written, and the film is IMHO very good with some amazing effects.

Yup, just watched it again and that's what it says - SPR. Funny how your brain makes you see what you expect to see.

Interestingly, although I played it on the PC, my paintshop program was prevented from taking a screen shot! Interesting technology.

kwikbitch 23-Dec-2004 14:34

We tried that...Even with hypersnapz dx pro which is designed, I think, to capture through the 3d Graphics card.
Blinkin good that eh???

AND...the asimov books...weren't they written in the early 1900's??? That's where the three laws come from isn't it?...Excellent adaptation.
Asimov was seen as a Nutter in his time. He was a real forward thinker.

I understand what you are saying about the Cagiva group though. They were branding their own bikes with the name but seeing as now they are a parent company (Mv Augusta group???) does that now mean that this is the end of the Cagiva bike brand?
Or....does that mean we may have a MVf 125 in the pipeline???:lol::lol:

Just had a go at encoding it through "tempenc" and "dup" (encoding software)
AND...cheeky monkees at Fox have designed it so that these types of software cant "see" the video frames and convert them to another format!
I guess it's so that you can't use the formats and file share a DVD copy.
I think that is SOOOOOO amazing! How clever!;)
I know that you can get the film as a "screener" so that must be why!:P

antonye 23-Dec-2004 16:43

It's nothing to do with the companies but the way the video card works.

It uses video overlay, which means that the image is added into the outgoing video signal (in the video buffer) rather than in the video memory.

Windows screenshot works by taking a copy of the video memory ... which the video picture hasn't been added to yet!

Try it with anything that works through media player or your DVD playing software and you'll get the same result.

All you need is a snapshot program that can see the video buffer and you can take screenshots.

Here's a pic from the website, showing the SPR on the side...

kwikbitch 23-Dec-2004 20:13

Did you read my post antonye?...I already tried HypersnapDX...
How did you do it?...
All the Software I have that can "see" the Video frames couldn't do it.... :(
OR am I not using the software correctly....
Tell me....Tell me!:o Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeze

:D

There should be an option in Hypersnap DX to turn on either DirectX support (which is the interface in Windows that lets DVD programs do the video overlay) or it will be worded as "allow DVD capture" or "allow video capture".

Also, check the FAQ for Hypersnap DX:
