Grab rails

Tech specs suggest grab handles can be removed. It then goes on to mention “Any cutting should take place 1cm from the weld on the side furthest from the main Subframe rail.”, however, the picture in the regs of a monster frame shows no rails at all?

Do I need to cut 1cm from the weld or is that only applicable to the rear tea-tray support rails? Seems a bit daft (and maybe dangerous?) to leave 1cm of the grab rail sticking out?

Once I’ve cut the rails off, what do you fill the hole with? I’m going to get the frame powdercoated so wondering what you would recommending to plug the gap?

cheers!

I'm probably wrong, but I don't think you will find any holes when you cut off the grab rails.

You can cut them of completely, and neatly grind back to the main frame rail so there will be no evidence of them when you have had the frame powdercoated.

What colour are you getting it painted?

Cheers, will cut them off and see where I stand.

Frame will likely be black (goes with everything if I change my mind), but I want the rest of the bike to be luminous red, if I can find the right colour. Saw a couple of the TT bikes and a sidecar painted in it and it looked… different lets say.

A bit like the red on the 848 EVO wheels, but brighter

when my monster bounced at anglesey, castle doom, anglesey, mallory etc etc the grab rails did take a bit of the hit,i.e they protect the seat /seat unit if she decides to slide.unfortunately it still hurts !!,but i think that what you save in weight is negligable compared to a knackered seat unit .
