Bike Purchase! TW Corse - James Thompson / Chris Wood Have purchased and will now start prepping their desmo due racer. '94 600ss - factory twin discs, deep blue frame and wheels (nice), adjustable showa rear. Cracking price from an unsuspecting seller! Big bore kit and more goodies to come. Couldn't help buying new boots, suit and helmet either, this is getting out of hand, thank f*** for the credit card! SORN'ed the Senna for the year, all or nothing on track!!!! to be continued....... |
good news chris... don't you just love it when a plan comes together! careful of the cost tho, we don't want anyone to prove Weeksy was right! :D |
As the bike cost only had two 0's we are well within our budget! I needed a new suit anyway, boots/helmet to keep my wife happy. Now when is the first DD test, (sorry), track day. |
Bugger!:( Will everyone stop buying cheap/race ready 600s! Been scouring the salvage yards/auctions for bloody weeks, but nothing worth looking at yet. Many congrats Chris. Twin discs a definite bonus. I'll expect to see TW Corse leading the way at Cadwell! :D Cheers, Ali |
nice one Chris. The blue frame is a nice touch - will make it easier to recognise who is lapping me..... Before you ask Ali - no, you can't run a sleeved-down 900! |
Where did you find it Chris? |
Any pics? |
Guys, Found it on www.ducatitrader.com. I think..... I searched the www in all engines looking for, 600 or ss or ducati. It takes time but paid off I guess. Looking to strip it down over the next few weeks and will post photos etc... We are definitely on a budget, the objective is light weight and as much power as possible. Hoping to fit an alloy swingarm and race bodywork. Can't wait....... |

First on the weighing scales then I think. Becareful of that minimum weight limit Chris |
mmmm, So much to learn.....must get kitchen scales out! Can you run ballast? |
Blimey...less than 1K for the bike :o:devil::o That is good going. Erm...is an Alloy swingarm legal? - I know the rules previously stated OEM Ducati but right or wrong I got the impression that it was only from the 600/620 SS/Monster range, unless I'm talking poo (as usual) and an Alloy swingarm was fitted to these at some point ??? F ok - I'll leave the post here as a lesson - just found the 'final' rules: "Standard swingarms can be taken from any Ducati model" also Minimum weight limit 150Kg without Fuel :devil::devil: Does make me wonder how rigorous the scrutinering will be??? will every bike really be compression tested ??? [Edited on 31-12-2004 by Iconic944ss] |
I believe it is any bike in the Ducati range, not just those with 600/620 engines, Frank. |
Thanks Lizzie :):):):):):) |
Chris, Was it the 600 from a student in Norwich? Saw that one myself on DucatiTrader but never got round to checking it out. |
We reserve the right to check ANY bike, however it is not likely unless you are noticeably faster than everyone else-and yes we may compression test them. John |

My Haynes manual says the 600SS is 172kg - there's room to get rid of all the road kit, all the bodywork, and maybe the front wheel if you want to wheely around the track! |
Yes, purchased from the student in Norwich, 200 mile round trip, sight unseen. My source has been outed! 20kg's should come off easy, now some 916 carbon bodywork - bought cheap on ebay wonder how it will fit? Cheers all. |
Damn you! As I said, I was going to look at that but the ad went and I thought it had gone! |
