WTF 12month service!

Have our favourite service location got this wrong at £435+ vat, for a 999r 12 month service?

Rattler 04-Jan-2005 21:05

Cheap at half the price!!!!!:puzzled::puzzled::puzzled::barfy::barfy ::barfy:

dave w 04-Jan-2005 21:07

Not bad for a oil change

electricsheep 04-Jan-2005 21:09

Not sure about the 999r, but the 749r is a full service inclding belts every 12 months, so that is a good price

dave w 04-Jan-2005 21:15

License to print money..... i say

Rattler 04-Jan-2005 21:16

You'd best sell 'er quickish like!!!

dave w 04-Jan-2005 21:21

That would keep one of those cheap kawasaki's serviced for years :P:P

andyb 04-Jan-2005 21:44

Does anyone know where to find the content of the 12 month service.ie what it entails? Is it different for an R?

weeian 04-Jan-2005 21:56

yea dseered this is the problem i have, my 2003 749 has only done 600 miles, does this mean it really has to go in for the 2 yr service in april or can i just put it toward some Termi's :flame:

/Ian

andyb 04-Jan-2005 22:16

It would be nice to see a definative list of whats done at what stage....

Bianchi 04-Jan-2005 22:19

You bought a thoroughbred.

Now treat it like a throughbred.

andyb 04-Jan-2005 22:29

Shame Ducati didnt have that attitude eh ....

Mr C 04-Jan-2005 22:31

1 year or 6000 miles which ever comes first.

Maybe ?

GsxrAge 04-Jan-2005 22:35

No different to a car except the price!!!!!!!

most services on cars are 6'000 / 6 months interim service or 12'000 / 12 mounths.
low milage can be worse than high milage.
Stop start and then left parked up for week or two aint any good. there is moisture in the air it gets into the engine and can stick to the bores, it mixes with the oil to.

Put it another way you jump out of bed it takes a while for your body to warm up and get going and you feel stiff.
Your engine is the same untill the oil gets warmed up it ain't doing it's job properly.

I have a very good mate that owns a Ducati garage (not official) i get mates rates there. I do the donkey work the to the technical stuff:cool:
But I do most of the work myself at home anything to keep the Ducati experence as low cost as possible.

Ps I bought a peugeot 307 20,000 miles or 2 year service intervals :lol::lol::lol:

Ps I bought an Audi, it tells you as and when it needs a service, and the amount of potential time left prior to that service.

Looking at my service coupon, it says every 10000 (ive done 2000) or 12 months,
new plugs, new air filter,(well ive got the race ones) fuel filter, oil filter, and oil. Then a load of check and or lubricate stuff!
Timing belts are C Check, but there is check the valve clearances, which is a bit of a pain.
Hmmm....

You might be surprised. IL4 servicing goes
cheap
cheap
expensive
cheap
cheap
oh my god, how much

of course the ducati is still more, but the gap is less than you might think if you do high mileages

andyb 04-Jan-2005 22:53

So as my service book doesnt appear to have any different schedule in it to any other 4 valve....

Fuel filter £10
Plugs £20
Oil filter £6
Oil £20
Dont need air filters

= £56

even £40 per hour would give 10 hours to do the work. :barfy:

electricsheep 04-Jan-2005 22:59

I thought that the 6000 mile/1 Year Service on a 749R or 999R was a belt change, but I just checked my service book and it does not say that.

I can't remember where I saw/heard that it was a belt change.

GsxrAge 04-Jan-2005 23:25

996 is every 2 years :D

dave w 04-Jan-2005 23:32

My old 999s belt change was due at 2 years...so must be the same for the R ??

Is he a specialized painter who uses his brush differently to his mate who is a painter also?

Does he bollox ! he's a painter:

so lets see

Driver is a driver?
secretary is a secretary?
machinist is a machinist?
Window fitter is a window fitter?

But when it comes to a bike mechanic WOW
He must be a genius
WHY?

because the amounts you wanna pay him!"!!!!!:D

Oil is oil

madmav 04-Jan-2005 23:41

andyb 04-Jan-2005 23:42

Im motor vehicle part1/ part 2 and ........I would just love to trust someone else, but I cringe when i go into "local" dealers near me!

andyb 04-Jan-2005 23:42

How are your nails...and i dont mean the 996..:lol::lol:

dickieducati 04-Jan-2005 23:43

you can always go and but a pile of jap crap and save a few pennies.;)

to be fair for a lot of us by the time you add in 'extras' such as slipper clutches, trackday bodywork, termi's, pcIII's, carbon this, carbon that, tyres, trackdays, etc etc etc it probably doesnt make too much difference to the overall cost of ownership.

madmav 04-Jan-2005 23:44

do ya wanna pop over here and say it ? do ya ! do ya well bloody do ya!!!!!!!!!!!!:mad::mad::mad::o:o:o:o:o:D:D:D ;):smug::smug:

GsxrAge 04-Jan-2005 23:45

I do most of the stuff myself and if it does go to a dealer i hang around to keep an eye on my baby:lol:

AK 04-Jan-2005 23:49

ok boys here you go - and mine is a 2 valver - M1000Sie

annual service (1st year) for 6000 miles includes:

Replace Plugs, air filter, fuel filter, oil filter & oil.

Clean fuel tank

check carbs (balance injectors), belts, cyl compression, throttle body, wheel hub bearings, play in steering head bearings, valve clearance, rear wheel cush drive, brake pads wear, tyre wear & pressure.

Remember, if you do not keep to the correct servicing intervals, Ducati will not honour any problems that arise from this.

Belts are changes & shims checked & adjusted if required at 12,000 miles/2 years - more expensive service.

Am being charged £250 (this does not include oil & filter as done during warranty work last month, not does it include spark plugs, as AK is supplying them)

I thought this was a lot, compared to the first annual on the M750 - but having called 3 dealers & 2 independants its about right. It is about £100 - £150 less than is charged by a southern Ducati store tho.
your faired bikes will cost more as fairings need to come off - this is what takes the time!

Am sure nelly will be along to talk more.

C:)
