Will a monster top yoke fit a carby-SS?

I'm thinking of cost-effective ways to make my Desmodue SS stand out a bit.

One of my thoughts is to "streetfighter" it with wide, flat bars. The fairing is coming off completely so clearance of the master cylinder is not a problem. I would definitely have to change the brake and clutch hoses, but don't know whether the electrical wires have enough give to reach.

Anybody done this? And anyone want to lend me a monster yoke for a year?

cheers, Chi

Certainly fit regarding bearings, headstock, nut etc. I'd be suprised if the wires weren't long enough. I think clearance would be the only issue (or not, in your case).

merci!

recently saw a conversion kit for this mod on a website somewhere -------but cant find it now arrrrghhh included all the wiring and brake pipes etc with a new top yoke, bars and bar ends and steering damper!!!!!

I'd be suprised if the top yoke alone fitted without the bottom yoke and stem as well. I'd have thought the fork offset was different..

The ss & monster bottom yokes 'look' identical, but Darren's right, that's no guarantee the offset's the same. I'll check when I get home and let you know...

Darren's right, the monster offset is around 5mm farther forward than the ss. You would have to fit bottom and top yoke from a monster. Makes the steering even slower!:)

hmmmm.....

so what should I do?
1) top & bottom yoke from a monster
2) get some brackets welded onto the existing yoke
3) get clip-on brackets for the fork and turn them to face each other to take a crossbar?

that's exactly what I meant with no 3 Frank! I remembered your original post but couldn't find it when I did a search.

I'll turn them inwards so I can fit some Renthal-type bars. Sounds like dropping the forks quickened the steering up quite a bit as well!

Keep this up Frank and I'm going to have to clear the slate at your local!

cheers, Chi

No problem Chi.

For a race setup I'm sure you could mount the clamps BELOW the top yoke somehow and achieve an interesting effect.

I have a new pair of spareshack custom clipons that a member is interested in already however, if your fork tops are 50mm you are welcome to borrow my original (re: tatty) Ducati clipons and see how they work as well.

I guess youve probably worked out I'd really, really, really like to give DesmoDue a go this year but buying a Jap trackbike last year scuppered that plan :sniff::sniff:

Good luck - Frank
