748s still worth a lot.... According to the latest issue of bike, I quote, new 749's are down to under 7k and decent used 748s still going for 6k i wonder why? answer: the 748 is still beautiful :D and the 749 isn't:P quote from Neil Murrays column in Bike magazine |
Hmmm...... I think we're into "opinion" teritory here! I reckon the 749 dark, like Scotty's, is almost as tasty as No44 covered in squirty cream and raspberry sauce! Sorry, mind is wandering :rolleye: |
Nick what you mean number 44 ? u been drinking:lol::lol::lol: |

Its only an opinion ....just like, whats the point in having the practice 750 model instead of a real 1000cc ?:devil: :P |
Of course it is an opinion everyone has one, I was more thinking about the price, good if they are still holding there well:D:D:D |

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, 749/999 styling is a step forward, it is hard to follow in the footsteps of the 748/9**. They may look better but thats not the main thing, 749/999's perform better. /Ian |
An Italian described the two bikes to me thus:- The 916 is a race bike that they put on the road and the 999 is a road bike that tried to race:o |
I'm well pleased - I paid £6000 for my MY2000 748S with 2800 miles on it, 50mm Carbon Termis (plus originals), single seat (plus original) and paddock stand, alarm, datatag, etc back in 2001. It's still worth around £4700-£5K with all the extras, so that's not a bad drop over the last 4 years! |
Pandora's box me thinks this one... I love the classic 916 shape etc, and lthough the shape/design of the 749/999 hasn't set the world alight, it is a step forward, Ducati or any bike manufacturer wouldn't of made the decision to replace such an iconic bike if they didn't know (not think) that the new bike was going to be a step in the right direction. Prices are holding well, because every 748-998 is now an older model, and only available 2nd hand, and because of this, more people are able to afford them, who wouldn't like an iconic bike eh? which in turn has kept values high, and the downside is the new models are depreciating faster.. What also didn't help things in the 2nd half of 2004 was Ducati announcing to the world at Laguna WSB the 2005 range of 749/999 models with new fairing, and supposedly more power, and lighter (although that has been discussed previously and is more down to marketing rather than solid fact), so due to that Ducati dealers have struggled to sell any new bikes from July onwards, and had to reduce prices of 04 models dramatically to get the sales, great if you were in the market for a 04 bike, but a bit of a kick in the teeth for any current owners of an 03 749/999 etc, as their values would have crashed. |
