583 to 675 Conversions? I know that there was talk of a discount being offered for this - through Neil at Sigma I think? - but has anything been officially announced about it yet? Any indication of the cost as well? I'm looking to get this done so need to budget both time and money for it. |

Ah, ok. I've been sent some figures but even getting the kits at cost prices is going to be an horrendous amount of labour cost involved - to the point where it's going to double the cost of the bike! Seems like we may need to work on a plan for this too... |
Ant, Following the meeting yesterday, discussions as to discounts that will be available to Desmo Due entrants have proved positive. Obviously the overbore kit for the 583 motor is one of the key components, to equalising the performance in relation to the 620 machines. They have indicated that they will look at making a "significant" reduction on this and other key parts to entrants. I dont have a price yet, but expect to have more info shortly. Chris |
unfortunately the much cheaper option of drop-in high comp pistons looks out as compression goes to 11.5 :sniff: |
chris, sorry to jump in. are you posting the findins from the meeting soon. just trying to sort stuff out at the moment thats all, tyres etc etc. |

Patience grasshopper, go paint the fence ... First race is 3 mths away yet ..... |
Boys, We will be mailing out the offer on the overbore kit, etc direct to entrants as soon as we know; I am not intending to post them on the message board. We need to agree a means by which only paid up entrants can receive the discount, it will not be available to anyone else, which we then need to agree with Ducati. Given that the overbore kit as I understand it is a simple bolt on relacement (I dont beleive you have to split the cases), then I suggest that people get on and fettle their bikes/engines and there will be plenty of time to fit the kit once we have the paperwork in place. One word of caution though; dont forget that as the kit will effectively be the equialent of a re-bore,, you will need to give the pistons 500/600 miles of running in before they will give of their best and not nip up. Chris |
I assume the 620-675 big bore kit will be available shortly too :devil::devil::devil::devil: I could'nt find this item in the DP catalogue either - anyone help with a part number :devil::devil::devil::devil: |

Sadly, the scrutineers might just notice the TURBO  Interestingly enough, I was just searching the other day for a company called "Luftmeister" that used to make BMW products (amongst them believe it or not - Turbos and bolt on fuel injection kits) - seems the company went bust but one of their major suppliers has taken up the cause instead: http://www.rbracing-rsr.com Their Turbo page from the product list is erm QUITE INTERESTING :devil::devil: [Edited on 14-1-2005 by Iconic944ss] |
So how cheap will somebody sell me there 583 Barrells and Pistons for as I need to get my engine sorted and may still find the 675 kit is outside my budget. |
Just a thought Kev, IS it possible to go for an over bore and new pistons with your existing barrels - dunno if duke barrels can be overbored but it would get you a few extra cc's. Also if I remember the rules - max compression = 12bar - any idea anyone what compression ratio this works out at ????????????? F |

Kev, I'm sure we can work something out cheap when I get mine. Just depends on how long you're happy to wait because I'm probebly not going to get a bike for a few weeks yet. TP |
Just checking a few details about the overbore kit ... 600 is 583cc = 80 bore and 57.8 stroke 620 is 618cc = 80 bore and 61.5 stroke 675 overbore on 620 = 83.5 bore (?) and 61.5 stroke therefore overbore on 600 gives 83.5 bore and 57.8 stroke = 634cc ie a full 675 upgrade to a 600 will require a new crank ?! |
The overbore 680 kit is a matching barrel and piston at 86 bore, Ducati pn 96401897C. Cost is roughly 700-odd quid for parts at dealer prices (and then add labour on top to get it fitted...), but as Chris says this may well be discounted through the DesmoDue series. |
Sorry, forgot to add that's for the 583cc version - can't find anything for the 620 as yet. |
With the 620 you would also have to consider any differences in Valve size and lift along with any differences in combustion chamber shape if you were trying to fit parts from a bigbore kit designed for the earlier 583cc model. Frank the bores on a 600SS are plated and having them replated isn't that cheap. But as I have just sourced another 583 engine for £250 I should hopefully be sorted now, as well as having a few spares in the way of casings, rockers, valves etc. |
The only big bore kit for the 620 that i can find is a 654 kit that is available in Italy. John is having a run of 83 mm pistons made along with machined and plated barrels ,84mm pistons are available but that gives 680 cc (the 680 kit for the 583 is actually 673cc ). Butch |
