How to find a garage ? Hi, Because my bike will be here in February, I have started to look for a garage to let because nothing comes with my little flat. I looked on the website www.friday-ad.co.uk and there is just one in a village around and the price is £100 a month... Do you have any idea where I could find one ? I live in East Gristead. Thanks, Tonio. |
try the local council, they usually have stacks of empty ones for around £30 a month. 1st thing you would have to do would be to increase security though. Those garages are a piece of p**s to get into. |
Hi, I had the same problem about 4 months ago and ended up printing 200 A4 flyers off at work and spent two mornings putting them under garage doors. Took a couple of weeks, but had five offers at the end of it. Now paying £27/month for a detached garage with loads of roof space for storage. :D Also worth aksing at some of the bigger country houses if they've got stables, barns, etc that they're not using. Cheers, ali |
Other than that try the ad boards in local shops, classified ads in local newspapers, Loot (available online too), etc. |

council garages in east Grinstead? I don't think so. You have to be on at least £50k a year before they will let you walk down their high street:lol: |
Thanks all, I think I am going to put some adverts in my home's around... |
A|re you on the ground floor......Id use my front room. |
Rocker - you've obviously not been to East Grinstead lately. Got into work last Monday to find 24 panes of glass smashed over four offices. About the tenth time in a year we've had smashed windows. £650 just to board them up. EG is not a classy place :( Tonio - you might have some joy with the local housing authorities. I've posted you a list of the most likely ones. Otherwise try the ads in the Observer. |
Hi Lizzie, thanks a lot for that. :) |
I've just gotten back from one of the those self-storage places and they had a load of motorhomes and cars in there as well as the locked rooms. I am looking for some extra space as well to move out furniture that belongs to the house so I can use all the garage space as a workshop. You might want to look at some form of self storage? Loknstore was the one I looked at. May or may not help but you never know .. |
I think you'll find that the storage places want the tank drained if you store it for any length of time and it's VERY expensive |

Good point Jools. I didn't ask about storing a vehicle but I noticed they said the same thing about storing a lawnmower. That said, the lawnmower would be stored in your locked room whereas the bike/car would be stored in an open area. Important to note: it couldn't be classified as a garage for insurance purposes. As for the price, I've just inquired about a garage here in Twickenham that costs £18 per week. I can get 25 square foot of storage for £13.50 per week. 30 square foot was around £16 per week and so on and so forth. ... Just depends on what you want to store and what it's shape is. If you wanted to store a vehicle there then you'd best ring them to confirm the facts. |
I'm probably a bit far away but if you're really struggling I could make some space in my garage until you can find something more permanent. I live in Ashtead, Surrey. |
Hi webbyc, Thank you it's very kind from you. I will bring the bike back from France the 15-02-2004, so if I haven't found anything I will contact you. Tonio. |
