what extra\'s should i fit .. ......... to my bike over the next few months as i've had to change my plans and cant afford to race in desmodue due to unforeseen circumstances im considering what little cash i'll have left on my 748 bip i want to fit a new taller screen to her and anything else upto the £500 area, she already has termis,ohlins rear/damper and front internals what products would you guys recommend dave |
a slipper if you are going to do a few trackdays and dont already have one. |

Slipper is obviously not as much an advantage for everyday road riding, but it will still make a difference. As for cost, I believe Nelly at CXornerspeed might still have some specials left at around £750 including a Ti clutch cover and an enlarged slave cylinder. P34 calipers are a huge improvment on the earlier types, they have to be felt to be believed. Not sure exactly how much but think around £150 per caliper plus another £60 or so for pads. Almost everything from 2001 onward if I rememeber rightly. Unless they got radials. |

I think only the 998s got p34s as standard and i guess the r versions. my 2002 748s didn't get them although it says it does on the 2002 webpage:o |
I suggest you forget the calipers and fit Triumph conical hubs as fitted to the early Triumph Tridents, this will let you explore the finer handling caracturistics of your machine!:bouncy: |

I would normally recomend getting the suspension sorted, but it looks like you have already done that, so I would also recomend the slipper. I only have experience with the STM slipper, it seems to improve normal clutch operation as well as giving the slipper effect on downshifts. |
If I'd just bought a 748 and had £500 spare to spend, then unless I was 101% convinced it had already been done, I'd spend the money on getting a Ducati specialist to give it a good going over, checking the rockers, stripping the clutch, examining the loom for chafing, setting the TPS, etc etc etc. |
Pro-Twins should be able to set you up with 4-pad calipers for around £200 including lines (which you will need as the fittings are different). Pro-Twins - 01342 892 888 )Robert/Chris/Brett - these guys are seriously helpful). If buying a slipper, make sure you get one with a hard wearing clutch basket - some of the cheaper ones are made from cheese. The ergal rating defines the hardness of the alloy - higher-better. Also, I intend to change to alloy friction plates as soon as poss, as the standard steel plates hammer the alloy basket. I believe the alloy plates for the ST4 are suitable. BTW, a well set up slipper clutch is well worth the money. Good luck. Spinoli |

weeksy i cant afford desmo due this year and i havent got the acu licence so thats a no go moto748 the bikes all good on that front just ask harv !!!!!!!! harv, i hadnt considered the 853 kit, sounds like a bloody good idea and just the extra reason to get the p34's at the same time. ps nice duke in your avatar dc did you fit them yourself or pay for it to be done, what else was needed after you bought the kit and pads, did you find any unexpected hidden extra's ???? nelly how much for the p34's and radial cylinder please ?? deej, dont worry about 853, just pop in a 916-996, if its possible, but even with your 748 there is enough power already on tap. swap over brakes first. my mate had an R1, gave him a go on my then 748R (4 pad calipers) he nearly went over the bars, he was very impressed. Then do the slipper clutch |

mmm brembo barke lever with p34's and a radial master cylinder dont think the bikes powerful enough for all that stopping power eventually a 853 with slipper but i think i'll definetly try out the brake recommendations nobodys recommended what make of screen to go for yet either, come on guys suggestions please?? |

Forget Brembo master cylinders and go for lockheed agustable ratio master cylinders instead, sorry had 2 much wine 2night |

Fork re-valve Rear Ohlins - eBay again... or Power Dyno time with FIM Chip / Power Commander Quick change rear sprockets Or.... Track school, CSS / ESS or similar. |
£500 - 600? Simple. Two levels at CSS, improve yourself first with skills you can transfer to any bike. Next choice? P34 calipers. Any bike is powerful enough to benefit from better stoppers. |
Wouldn't bother with a slipper for the road. I'm going with Jools and suggesting CSS. |

jools, im going to do another day at the haslam race school on the fireblade this time and will then try something on the track with the 748 after the summer im more interetsed in modding the bike really |
have sourced some second hand p34's which is a bonus, how much difference will they make to the bike, can you enter a corner and use the front brake without the bike standing up on you if it was required |

all your braking should be over as you enter the corner, more chance of the front washing out on you if you apply the front stopers.:puzzled: |
:eureka: yeah i know that but in a emergency on my old r6 you could if needed apply the front brakes but thats impossible on the 748 as it just sits you upright :roll: |
A used set of mag wheels. Definitely the best upgrade you can make after Superbike school. |

£500 !! I would be looking at lighter wheels,as Shazaam says 2nd hand mags or if you have the 3 spokes a upgrade to the 5 spokes will save some weight, get some money back on the old wheels. Also worth considering are adjustable rearsets, can add a bit of comfort and also look good (unless they are like my Harris ones and plastered in dirt all the time) Get your front internals sorted, I know you say they are done but I can trail my brake right into the apex if I have to on my revalved and resprung forks (having to refers mainly to race meetings). Brembo Radial mastercylinder is a nice upgrade as is lower gearing and a Renthal or Talon rear sprocket carrier. If you don't fancy a slipper clutch then a lightweight race clutch will help the engine spin up quicker. Sorry to hear your not doing the Desmo Due, but hopefully there will be next year. |
next year for sure mate good suggestions, forks ared one, got the sprocket carrier, new sprockets will be fitted at next service, p34's on the way, rearsets would be nice at the right price |
