hodgson in the usa

read N H`s test in mcn last week, looks like he`s got a good chance to give the yanks a run for their money...what d`you think, or does anyone give a s**t ?
:)

simonducati 17-Jan-2005 19:11

hodgson Is the man, but not the man on the GP bikes. Init ? :rolleye:

Henners 17-Jan-2005 19:57

Neil has the skill and the self belief to win AMA as long as the bike and the tyres are up to it and he gets a good chief engineer - bit like Rossi really in that regard ;) As Ian would say its the 'package' that matters and last year in MotoGP he didn't have any of the above whilst in 2003 he did.

Toseland made an interesting comment in Bike magazine: If he did what he did this year last year (2003) when the bike was new, he would have been a hero. He was quicker that Capirossi (on the same bike) in most places and Capirossi had a race win and numerous podiums last year. The amount of development the Japanese did in 2004 - they were two seconds a lap faster. Neil had no chance.

adam 17-Jan-2005 20:03

again NH will suffer, because he will be against riders who will not want to be beaten by a brit, that means he will have to really battle, that means no chance. Foggy said it all:sing::sing::sing:

simonducati 17-Jan-2005 20:13

Ok, ok you learn something new every day. Ill keep my eye on him them.

:o

deej 17-Jan-2005 22:54

neil will do well over there, hes ona bike he knows with tyres he likes and full factory support

if you read what the yanks say they were actuallyimpressed and they dont say that about a brit especially a rival very often

rcgbob44 17-Jan-2005 23:53

Lets hope Hodgy does well in the you ess of ay!...............lets be honest he`s on a good machine!

skidlids 18-Jan-2005 00:23

He's a good racer, just needs to be on a good bike with good tyres and run by a good team. I hope he does well.

Henners 18-Jan-2005 00:41

... not betting with you again on Hodgson :(:barfy::yawn::lol::lol::frog:

Totto 18-Jan-2005 06:23

I hope he goes well ,but win the Ama in his first year is a bit much , but then rumor has it he got 1.5million so is he really that worried !
Not sure if thats sterling or $ !

Rattler 18-Jan-2005 10:17

Good luck to the fella - any Brit who goes to the US to "kick butt" should be encouraged I reckon.

I'm not sure I like his personality too much, but all power to him!!!

Jimbob 18-Jan-2005 10:53

Should've stayed in Motogp! He had one crap year and has taken the soft option by going back to a domestic championship on a bike he knows inside and out.
Another Fogarty me thinks. Can't do anything on any other make of bike.
A big cop out!

Jimbob 18-Jan-2005 11:04

Well excuse me for having an opinion!

And what useless part are you talking about anyway?!

Jimbob 18-Jan-2005 11:19

So your telling me he had no offers whatsoever to stay in Motogp.

And I do have a valid reason to slate him because he did have a monumentally shite year and by his own admission he was scared of the bike and that is'nt the right mind to have if you want to take on the best in the world on the best bikes.

Simon Reed 18-Jan-2005 11:31

No ones a more loyal hodgy fan than me,but,i think he's a got a mountain to climb personally !! Mladdin,Zemke,Duhammel,Aaron Yates,& Eric Bostrom will all be there, then theres the reliability question,Bostrom didn't finish Daytona last year,he blew up !! & there circuits are more demandin than ours or most of the europeans !!

You've just got to hope & pray he does it, & i hope he does, but it won't be easy.

desmojen 18-Jan-2005 11:31

Well said Weeksy :sing:

Hodgson rules, I hope he wins this year in America. I think he's in with a good chance! :frog:

Jimbob 18-Jan-2005 11:44

I'm not denying the fact that he was fast and he did out qualify the works dukes on some occasions and to be fair he did suffer some mechanical problams, but if he could've had one more year in motogp on the duke or any other bike in a satelite team or whatever I think he would've improved ten fold. It would've led to a full on works ride somewhere.

He hasn't had enough time in the class to develop.

There was a rumour that Suzuki were interested, but obviously that never came off.

baylissboy 18-Jan-2005 13:20

This is not aimed at just Hodgy, but i don't think that the 999 is the bike to be on in ANY superbike championship!!

The Ten Kate Blade gave the Factory team a scare or two, just think what it'll be like after winter testing & loads more data to work from!!

I'm putting my neck on the block,but i think BSB,AMA & WSB will all go to a 4 cylinder bike,very sad,but that's my opinion!!:(

Twinfan 18-Jan-2005 13:34

Vermuelen will be the calss of the WSB field. And by quite a way.

BSB will be close, too close to call. I'd tip BamBam Thomas for a good season though.

AMA will be close too, but you've got to favour Mladin.

I'd chuck Corser in the mix with Vermuelen as well.

baylissboy 18-Jan-2005 13:46

OK,here's my tips,

BSB.................Rutter(he MUST be due a championship win)
WSB................Vermuelen(CERT)
AMA.................Mladin(or Yates)

Any thoughts,or comments?

Twinfan 18-Jan-2005 14:00

I'm not convinced Michelin will have caught up enough to take the title this year. You just copied me for the WSB and AMA chasers!

In BSB you've got possible titles for:

Reynolds
Smart
Harris
Rutter
Haslam

Steve M 18-Jan-2005 14:04

Rutter

Corser or Toseland (or maybe Haga or maybe Vermin or ---- just bring it on)

Hodgson

Jimbob 18-Jan-2005 14:43

WSB gone a bit stagnent.

AMA tried to follow it on Motors but they repeat it so many times i lose interest.

Going back to WSB though it seems to be getting better thanks to the 1000 fours getting stronger, before it was getting to be a one make series.

I'll always be a motogp fan anyway. You can't beat the bikes and the few riders who can get the most out of them

sorry if this is late in the thread but, surely that comment is total tosh. It's like saying if he had a 999 twenty years ago he'd have shown 'em a thing or two.

well, it seems like a lot of people do give a s**t ! good, cause i would love to see him do the biz in the us of a, oh, and btw.....
laconi wsb
rutter bsb
gibernau moto gp

:)

adam 18-Jan-2005 18:47

well ill stick my neck on the old block, im not a NH fan, personality is a big no no. i said this before on another topic regarding Hodgson, Just because he is british means nothing. i will always spur on a carasmatic (sp) risk taker, all or nothing rider above all. thats the racing i like to see. Haga, Xaus, baylis v Edwards WSB, and of course Rossi. Hodgson just doesnt have that. He may put in better qualifying times but when it comes to side by side racing he seems to lose it. Really dont think he will cut it in AMA.

TP 18-Jan-2005 18:54

WSB - Way open, could be Corser, Vermuelen, Toseland, Laconi ... I'm going to go with Corser.

BSB - I don't really know enough about it, haven't followed it closely enough. Reynolds or Smart though, I'll go for Reynolds.

MotoGP - Rossi. Biaggi will be more of a threat this year as a factory rider, and I think Bayliss will be up there as well, more podiums than the one last year and maybe even a win but I think Rossi is the man.

AMA - Mladin. Yates will be closer this year and depending on Honda support DuHamel will be up there as well. So will Hodgy but I don't think he's going to win it on the 999 learning new tracks everywhere he goes etc.

Alan - what is it you don't understand:puzzled: He raced the same bike in 2004 as Capirosssi did in 2003 and did better on in it an underfunded ar$ehole of a team - what does that say about the man?

Really there's only three things to know:
1 He's British
2 He's on a Ducati
3 He's a World Champion
... or isn't this the right place to be proud of that ?

misterpink 18-Jan-2005 19:13

stick my neck into the fray...not a big NH fan either, but i really hope he does it - he may not be the MOST charismatic - IMO only bayliss, edwards and rossi have characters that come across - sure xaus, haga, chili too but not always evident - what about a hodgson/toseland comparison??
Hodgson has had a pretty rough ride - that early works ride with ducati probably did more damage than good / rebuilt his career and reputation - and the guy has stuck to it and worked, really worked hard to get where he is - i admire that. So would love it if he won AMA, but i think he has a huge challenge and a bit of a gamble if it all goes wrong - he threw the dice so lets see how he does.

mogwai 18-Jan-2005 19:22

BSB = Trevor Nation.
WSB = Fred Merkel.
Moto Gp = Fat Freddie Spencer.

adam 18-Jan-2005 19:29

Henners, Foggy, he's British, rode a Ducati, World champ, more than once, how many on this site run him down?
Im just looking at him only as a rider, forget the "british" forget the Ducati, just the man, he aint got it, WSB title, having only one competitor when winning the title doesnt make him special, four times oh yes. putting three/four title chasing riders with him, different story. wonder how long it takes for him to mention bad tyres?:smug:

Henners 18-Jan-2005 19:31

Adam ...

... lets agree to differ on this one

adam 18-Jan-2005 19:41

Henners, its not a case of agreeing or disagreeing, we both just have different views which we wanted to put across.Though we will both agree that we always want to see a Ducati come across the line first.;)
