Desmodue Racing Website

After some seriously delaying delays the Desmodue racing website is back up and running.

The site is now hosted on the same server as the main Ducati Sporting Club site (thanks Eamonn and Chris!).

Unfortunately previous data and registrations have been lost. So you will need to register again.

Adding content to the site is open to all, although there is some moderation in place to approve registrations at this time.

Same goes as before, if you have any improvement ideas (and I'm sure there are many!) let me know and I'll try to work them in.

Some DD launch photos and a review of the night would be a nice edition!

Right then, since I can't afford to go Desmodue racing - in terms of time, money and the pain my other half would inflict on me - I've decided to do something a little different.....

I've created a website. Basically, this is a "fansite" for the Desmodue racing series. It doesn't have official DSC endorsement and is just my personal project. Although there are plenty of links back to this here DSC website and all credit is given.

The URL is:

http://www.desmodueracing.com
or
http://www.ducatisportingclub.com/desmodue/

What can be done on and with this site?

- Anyone can read the articles and post comments, although anonymous user comments need to be "approved" before publishing.

- Anyone who registers can publish stories, add comments and upload files without approval (at this stage). The idea here is that anyone can add useful and interesting information when they find it, and I don't have to do all the work!

- Any Desmodue racer who wants some webspace to keep their own diary is more than welcome to use this site. Simply register, let me know and I'll set it up so you can use the "blog" functionality

- Anyone attending race events, or just finding interesting content, can upload their pictures and stories to this site.

I'm also completely open to suggested changes and improvements. This is really only just the first take on this idea, and hopefully there's still a few months to get it right! U2U me your thoughts.

I'm not trying to take anything away from the DSC website, rather hopefully creating a complimentary, lasting record of the Desmodue racing series in 2005 and providing a service for those involved who want to use the web to publish their material.

Hope you all like it.

Cheers
PhillC

Great idea Phill.

Just having a cruise through now.

Rattler 19-Jan-2005 19:15

Great idea Phil.

I could do with some constant webspace so that I can start a diary.

What do I need to do? Register with you?

Tim:ninja:

madmav 19-Jan-2005 19:15

Brilliant !!!!!!!!!!!!! and i'm not even in DESMO DUE ..

Well done that man........ mav

dickieducati 19-Jan-2005 19:15

looks great i'll certainly be adding stuff and getting in touch.
havnt really given it much thought yet but a 'runners and riders' section could be good:

riders details
bike they are on
racing experience
etc

phillc 19-Jan-2005 20:07

Dickie - Nice suggestion. This shouldn't be a problem to add as a new category. I was thinking of including this in the Tracks, Dates and Grid section, but I think it's a good idea to split out into its own category.

Rattler - Just register on the site (I'd do it for you, but if you do it yourself you can choose your own password which is less hassle) and then let me know. I just need to mark your account as a Desmodue Rider and you have access to the blog/diary funcationality. Once that's done, go to the site, click "create content" in the left hand column, select "blog entry" and enter everything you want in the middle column. Don't forget to hit "Submit" at the end of course. You should be able to use all HTML tags in your text body, but don't need to - just type away. I'm happy to provide any other instructions if you need them.

PhillC

Rattler 19-Jan-2005 20:29

Right I'll give it a try - html stuff is all a bit foreign, so if I can just type and it gets sorted I'll give it a go.

I've just registered under Rattler, can you do the necessary with "marking" as a rider?

Nice one

ali 19-Jan-2005 20:35

That's a spanking idea PhillC! Looks great, although having quotes from yours truly on the home page will do nothing for your hit rate!

Having links to the site will ensure I keep updating the bugger as well. Later in the season you might want to include a classifieds section (or a link to this one) for people that may want to go racing next year.

We could also do with getting the URL into Pronto and maybe any stickers that are likely to be used on the bikes.

Well done that man. :D

Monty 19-Jan-2005 20:48

Looking good Phillc-one correction-the Brands date has changed to September 11th.

John

madmav 19-Jan-2005 20:53

Phill can you make this LINK "live" at the bottom of the page ?

The Ducati Desmodue Racing series is run and managed by the UK's Ducati Sporting Club - http://www.ducatisportingclub.com

Just a suggestion:)

skidlids 19-Jan-2005 20:55

Brill idea, I have just registered.
Had a quick look around the home page expecting to see a links page, which could be useful.
having links to the likes of new Era , the ACU, various other helpful sites like those that show you how to do lock-wiring, suspension setup, race supplies, etc.

Kev

phillc 19-Jan-2005 21:39

OK, everyone who's registered is now activated as Desmodue Riders.

Rattler - your certainly don't need to know HTML, just type away as you normally would.

Thanks everyone else for the hints and tips. I'll try and find some time this evening to make more updates or perhaps tomorrow in my, ahem, "lunch hour".

Classifieds is a nice idea, but there is already a Marketplace here and I am very conscious of not taking anything away from the DSC site. I guess maybe the more exposure the better!

I had wanted to more content up there before publicising it here, but I just couldn't resist :-)

TP 19-Jan-2005 21:42

I'm creating an account now .....

antonye 19-Jan-2005 22:12

Very, very smart! I like that!

Good work fella!

Rattler 19-Jan-2005 22:33

I've just stuffed a couple of entries up there (oh er missus!!) - not sure if they're in the right place - Phill?????

phillc 20-Jan-2005 00:00

OK, a few more updates and suggestions incorporated.

Rattler - changed your second post so it shows up as a new diary entry.

Monty - changed the Brands date

Madmav - made the link to DSC at the bottom of the page hyperlinked

Skidlids - created a links page, accessed from the Categories in the left hand column, called External Links. Be sure to click "Read More" at the end of the summary to see the full list. I didn't promote this directly to the home page of the site, but can if peeps would like it there to start with.

Dickie - Haven't put the list of riders etc up there yet. Is there a thread on here that has all of these details? If not, could you help with the list so far Monty? Alternatively, riders post your details to me (here, U2U, or register on the site and create a new "story".

Nice one Phil - Just registered myself - but nowhere near gifted (or hard working) enough to be a DD rider.

How about a link to the calendar that was created previously?

http://www.ecom-secure.co.uk/dsc/calendar/index.php3

skidlids 20-Jan-2005 00:31

well I thought I had registered earlier but apparently not.
Where did I go wrong ?

phillc 20-Jan-2005 01:35

Yep, skidlids, you're registered - as Skidlids, with an uppercase S. Try logging in like that. Otherwise, type in your username and click the "Request password" link.

You can change your username in the My Account section later if you want to.

Cheers

chicken 20-Jan-2005 08:47

what a great idea! I'll be bookmarking it as a favourite and registering today! Thanks for all your hard work PhillC

clint 20-Jan-2005 09:53

I have registered but iam not racing in the dd series. I will be a spectator. My diary seems to be filling up quite nicely for the 2005 season.

Clint.

uncledunnie 20-Jan-2005 10:03

I wish I was talented enough to produce something like this :(:(

anyway I've registered too and my diary will be published at last!!

antonye 20-Jan-2005 10:28

Any chance we can have our own hostnames, like antonye.desmodueracing.co.uk or rattler.desmodueracing.co.uk which point straight to our blogs?

phillc 20-Jan-2005 11:56

Like this?

http://antonye.desmodueracing.co.uk
http://rattler.desmodueracing.co.uk
http://ali.desmodueracing.co.uk
http://dickie.desmodueracing.co.uk
http://skidlids.desmodueracing.co.uk

I can set up more for other riders when their diaries are available.

Are you happy with these redirections? Those that have a diary/blog on the Desmodue racing website have the redirection set to point straight at their blog homepage. Those with a diary on their own web hosting have the redirection pointed straight there.

If you want any changes let me know as they're easy enough to make.

Cheers
PhillC

ali 20-Jan-2005 12:04

Top idea. Will be appearing on the bike soon! Also like the one about rider bio's.

ps: My URL will need re-directing when I get some webspace sorted. I'll u2u after the weekend.

antonye 20-Jan-2005 13:20

Excellent, just what The Doctor ordered!

NBs996 20-Jan-2005 13:28

Top marks to you PhillC, that'd take me the best part of a year to do!

I've registered but will be a bit quiet until the weekend when I'll sort out a bit of a contribution to the diaries.

btw... what the 'eck is a blog???

phillc 20-Jan-2005 14:07

"Blog" is short for "Web Log". It's just basically the new webspeak term for an online diary. Here's some more info -

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blog

NBs966, I've added you as a Desmodue Rider so you can use the blog/diary functions.

If any other riders do register, can you let me know - here or U2U.

Munster Racing, Multi600 - I'm not sure who you guys are and if you're racing or not.

Cheers
PhillC

DAVE HARRIS 20-Jan-2005 14:25

Ahhh... I'll be blogging in my office over the weekend then.
Somehow that doesn't sound like something to admit to! :o

antonye 26-Jan-2005 12:18

What's happened to the site? I can't see it anymore? Is it just me or has it disappeared?

:puzzled:

ali 26-Jan-2005 12:20

I couldn't see it yesterday either. Reboot.

Eh? Can you see it now?

NBs996 26-Jan-2005 13:24

seems to be gone.
shame if its been pulled for some reason.

phillc 26-Jan-2005 13:36

Hi guys,

The site hasn't been officially pulled, although I have had a chat with Chris about some operational guidelines etc.

The problem is that my hosting provider has had a catastrophic failure. Yep, every single one of their websites (including their own homepage) is not accesable.

They are working on restoring access so hopefully normal service will be resumed shortly. If they don't, I guess their business is pretty much dead.

Anyway, the good news is that if the restore works we'll be back up and running. If the restore doesn't work, I'll have to start again and unfortunately the existing diary entries will be lost.

I do apologise for this stuff up of grand proportions. Needless to say I just want everything restored and not have to engage in a protracted fight to get money back from the ISP, nor face up to the amount of work I'll need to do to get all my sites back up and running.

Webteam 07-Feb-2005 14:57

Phill's away on holiday for a couple of weeks, but just to let you know we have been working on transferring the website he started onto the DSC webserver and this will be operational again on his return.

Unfortunately due to the previous ISPs problems the data that had been entered has been lost so it will be starting from scratch again.

I'm sure Phill will give more details in 2 weeks time.

Eamonn.

dickieducati 07-Feb-2005 14:59

cool, good news

phillc 21-Mar-2005 18:54

After some seriously delaying delays the Desmodue racing website is back up and running.

I can't get in with the password I was sent in the email ?

HW 10-Apr-2005 22:22

I was just looking for a list of who's riding in the DD series? A list of names and DSC board names would be interesting.

Also, for bods like myself who are going to Cadwell to watch, it would be really good to have numbers and bikes ridden so it can be printed out and used as a programme on the day?
