Battery switch

I am swappimg the battery from my 748 to the newer type gel sealed battery form the 998 types.
The battery is much smaller and I was wondering if anyone had done the same swap and what had they used to secure the battey?
Its for a track bike so not too bothered about MOT etc but can only see the option of amking a new bracket for it to hold it in place other than tie wraps?

I will be using the standard 748 battery tray.

Help and advise gratefully received.

Geoff, I'd use some high density foam blocks to make up the difference between the stock battery box and the new smaller battery. Then, use a large O-ring, maybe about 3-4 inches in diameter and secure the battery. It's how the RS race bike do it.

Geoff, the latter 996s have a convertor that fits in the earlier battery box especially for use with the smaller sealed battery.

That's what's stock on my 2001 748. There's a removeable piece that goes in the bottom of the battery tray to take up the extra height, and the relay mounting brackets moves from "outside" to "inside" the battery tray (there's two mounting points) to take up the horizontal space if you use the smaller battery. This also has the effect of moving the relay bracket out of the way of the oil filler a bit.

Never made it to Ducati leeds so will have to go this week instead.

Moto748,
Dont suppose you have a picture of your set up or a camera tro do me a pic and send it via email or post it here?

Interested in seeing how its laid out and whether I can make one myself?

Might save me a few quid but might not, we shall see.
