My Ducati 600ss DD Racer.

Hi all,

Im planning to race in the Class B DD series next year as a rookie.

I bought this bike a few months ago for £600 with MOT and tax but then found this site and information on the DD series which along with an article in 'Practicle Sportsbike' about one of the guys that races in the series sold me on racing the bike.

I have included some pics below of the transformation from stock to race bike, Im nearly there, just some wireing and a couple of other bits to finish and she should be ready.

should send the HQ Photos and some written text in to Pronto about the conversion from road bike to race bike, should make a good article
Looks very tidy, do you have a race can for it yet

spliff187 02-Aug-2012 18:34

Hi Kevin,

Im bidding on an end can at the moment, so fingers crossed, if that goes well I should have bought one by the weekend.

I do have a scorpian end can that came with the bike but Im just not that keen on it.

I may just do that report for Pronto, this isnt the first bike I have rebuilt but to be honest I would say that anyone with a Haynes manual, a little knowledge (Not electrics though, thanks for the loom work) and some tools should be okay to do the same, I love painting as well so it was all just a joy really and I can wait to be on that starting grid with you next year.

dunlop0_1 02-Aug-2012 18:35

Looks pretty slick that. Good work indeed.

I'd be tempted to ditch the OE battery though. :D

bradders 02-Aug-2012 18:39

Oh dear...how will we tell you and badger apart?! nice work

spliff187 02-Aug-2012 18:45

Thanks for the comments Dunlop, I know alot of you guys are running the race batterys, Im just waiting to get the bike weighed in to find out how much she is at now and then decide where I can shed any more if needed.

As a guestamate what would you say she is weighing in at with the fairing changes, standard front stay removal with an ally replacment, rear under tray removed etc.... ??

spliff187 02-Aug-2012 18:47

I take it badgers bike is very similar then Bradders ? Doh

kiwicoops 02-Aug-2012 19:14

Unless your tripping over pots of dosh to get out the front door don't pay out for ultra lightweight race battery, something that will spin up a scooter will do.

Like he said. :)

If memory serves the OE battery weighs in at around 5kgs :o
and considering that is perched almost on top of the bike does add to the top heavy feeling.

Yer probably gonna need some rearsets or jack up plates aswell. The standard rearsets are a bit low.
You can drop the speedo and underseat tray aswell.

If the bikes ready then try and do the DD test day at Cadwell Friday 14th Sept

Gbyte666 02-Aug-2012 20:17

Thats a really smart looking conversion. Well done.
Easy to tell it appart from the Badger, Badgers is the one in the dirt usualy mind you its on a personal record so far of a whole race meet with out dirt tracking.

Craig

bradders 02-Aug-2012 20:35

Just because it came back on its own speed every session doesnt mean it wasnt dirt tracking ;)

spliff187 02-Aug-2012 20:46

Hi Dunlop,

Yeah Iv dittched the undertray and the only clock I will be using is the rev counter you can see in the pics.

Like I said I will wait and see how Im doing in the weight stakes before I splash out on a light weight battery.

Iv seen a couple of nicley priced race rearsets for sale on Ebay unless anyone can tell me of a better place to be looking.

It is so tempting to try and get the last couple of meets in this year but I still have a race van/camper to buy, change my 2 peice leathers for a one peice, go for my ACU etc etc and take the family away on holiday for two weeks at the end of August.............Money, I wish it did grow on trees, I have a forest!!

bradders 02-Aug-2012 21:03

Raceparts on ebay do ones almost everyone uses, so spares a plenty in the paddock if needed

And what you describe is only a weekend of a activity get it done ;)

spliff187 02-Aug-2012 21:17

Ill be there next year Bradders, Im just trying to get it all right before I fall off with exitment at the first meet on the first bend lol

Iv just had a google for more rearsets and found a set for £99 which is around £70 cheaper than the SES ones, these ones are from a company called Dynopro Racing.

bradders 02-Aug-2012 22:00

Racesuppliesdirect on ebay is what you need, wolud link but not easy from an ipad!!

skidlids 02-Aug-2012 22:47

Carl hasn't got any listed at the moment but you can always send him a message, Normally they are just under £100

http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Race-Suppli... l1513&_pgn=1

bradders 02-Aug-2012 22:59

Thx thats the one. Always helpful and easy to get spares

antonye 03-Aug-2012 00:12

That does indeed look lovely!
Would be great if you can put some words around the pictures to describe the process - what you found hard, what you found easy, some tips, etc.
Send it to pronto@ducatisportingclub.com and we'll get it in the magazine!

spliff187 03-Aug-2012 15:08

Thanks Antonye I will do that, I had loads more pics at all the stages but could only put 15 on at a time.

Kevin, Bradders, thanks for the heads up on 'Racesuppliesdirect' for the rearsets I will certainly give him a shout for a ton.

spliff187 12-Aug-2012 13:49

Hi Guys,

Iv added a few more pics of the new exhaust fitted I have just received.

dunlop0_1 12-Aug-2012 16:01

Looking good.
Love the oil pressure switch used as a banjo bolt. :)

spliff187 12-Aug-2012 16:06

Thanks Dunlop....
Lol, until I get a new step set-up you gotta just use whats to hand.....

skidlids 12-Aug-2012 16:29

That'll be Loud

spliff187 13-Aug-2012 14:41

:-) Kev, it does have baffles if I need them lol

skidlids 13-Aug-2012 21:49

Well you should be able to hear them by the weekend, harness is now finished and tested, so now just need to pack it up and get it in the post back to you

spliff187 14-Aug-2012 15:50

Great news, thanks so much Kev.......... This will be the first test ride since the complete re-build and Im soooooooooooo looking forward to it.
Ill let you know once Iv received it back.

skidlids 15-Aug-2012 00:04

Should be with you tomorrow

bally71 03-Sep-2012 16:59

Sweet

You going to ride it to the meetings?

max kudos if you do

I'd consider doing one of the test days before the end of the year if you're up and running.

Give it a shake down .. meet the guys in the paddock and get an idea of the pace

Hi Bally, No I wont be riding it to the track, maybe locally to Snetterton for the odd track day but def not to any race meets.
I would like to do a test day before the end of the season but unfortunatly Iv bought a dodgy engine in the bike, I have a 400ss fitted rather than a 6 so Im now trying to source a new engine to go in.
I may be at Cadwel next weekend but I will def be at Snett to say 'Ello'
