right. i've had my n plate 916 bip for 6 years put up with all the crap they can give you & loved every minute of it!

but....

tommorow i'm off to look at a Tplate 996 10k on the clock, uk bike, good nick, history etc. i think the sellers after about 4500.

what i want to know is will i notice the extra oomph? also i know the front discs are different, are they any better? are there any other changes?

my bikes approaching 20,000 mls & in fair condition. do you think i should trade up or stick with what i know?

Yes mate there is xtra oommphh
i did the same had 1997 916bp with 20,000 miles on thhe clock.
changed to a 2001 y plate 996 bp with 5 spokes and ohlins rear shock :cool:
just does everything better well worth the change :cool:

the one im looking at has 3 spokes but i dont mind that. ive also got an ohlins and other bits hugger etc that i can transfer over

Don’t do it, your 916 will be a rare classic in a year or two and worth double the 996.
Only joking of course there’s no replacement for horses. :D

No chance of keeping the 916 as well?, depreciation must be zero by now. Failing that, the 996 is what I thought the 916 was going to be.

The 916 motor is absolutely fantastic and makes the bike MUCH easier to ride as is very forgiving if you find yourself in the wrong gear.;)

The 996 motor feels lumpy and much more mechanical at anything below 5000RPM. But wind the bugg3r up and you'll never take the grin off your face. Where the 916 starts to run out of puff the 996 just keeps pulling, trying to wrench the bars out of your arms and will stay right beside a similar 999.:o

It's a beast round town though as first gear is really tall so the old left hand get's used a lot (insert your own jokes :lol: ).

Out on the open road is where it belongs but beware.:o With the extra power there is extra speed although you may not realise it until it's time to slow down (in my experience )

If possible keep the 916 for the track and the 996 for the road which is what I've done and I would't fancy tracking the 996 either!

Nice one Rus, what you should now do is convert the wifes RGV into a track bike-go on, you know you want to...........then you can come and play with me-strokers are made for the track.:D

go with monty and track the rgv my mate had 1 and it would have been great fun on the track. if he wasnt desperate for the cash last year and hadn't of sold the rgv when he did i would ahve had it for a trackbike now

you also be surprised how many people are after the old strokers, he had loads of phone calls about his rgv

if i were to join you on the track for a 2 stroke sesh it would def end in tears

when i think about 2 strokes the words fragile & hand grenade spring to mind......:)

I agree the 996 really does have more get up and gone!
Under 5grand it is a bit of a pain - get it into the zone and it is fan bloody tastic!
