What do racers get paid?

In the week after Birdie (Monster Mob - Paul Bird) reputedly offered Shakey (Byrne) £800 thousand to ride in BSB, rumours are that Hodgson is getting £1.5 mill to ride the AMA.

What do other riders get paid? BSB, WSBK GP etc? Is there good money in it for them? I know that most of them get free helmets gloves etc, but what cash do they receive?

He did, but I didn't believe him! Still maintains he's too poor to buy into our syndicate! :sing:

did he include his personal sponsorhip money and product endorsements etc?

John will be doing ok, but then again he is British champion and deserves everything he gets.

JPM 25-Jan-2005 17:34

Why do you think the likes of Mat Mladin never leaves AMA? not because he wouldn't relish the chance at racing the best in the world, but because he gets paid a stack, and the sponsorship deals etc in the US will be huge

Steve M 25-Jan-2005 17:37

very true

adam 25-Jan-2005 21:13

its quite shocking less than 50 grand, the risk factor is huge, goes to show how much those guys love racing.

Guido 25-Jan-2005 22:15

And goes to show how poorly MC racing is rated here in the UK yet it has what is reputedly the best domestic series in the world.

I forget to mention yesterday I bought an MX magazine in Canada for the flight home, it had an extensive interview with Travis Pastrana, he's 21 now, and has been at the top of his game (Freestyle wise) since he was 13 or 14 I think, his supercross career has been up and down mainly due to injury, but he was saying he had his first house, and it's a big house from the pictures at 18, and several acres of land for his own MX track.

He's currently got an offer from CBS Television to do an extreme series where he would receive $700,000 per episode, and would have free reign on the programme, plus he's been offered a works drive at Subaru in WRC after the supercross finishes in May this year..

So some do make huge amounts of money
