999S crash damaged good deal or not

My mate in the states is currently bidding on a crash damaged 999S with clean title currently just over £4.5K, what would a undamged one cost over here and are they worth the money

I've done a couple of 749S and would do it again but by the time youve done it you could buy a straight one with less hasle, wouldnt be on any list. he might be better pricing things now then he can work hes budget.

No Q plates allowed any more

weeian 28-Jan-2005 00:40

be easier in the end just buying a straight 1 to be honest.

No Q plate, it has a clean title which means its unrecorded and not a write off. I should think it could be sorted for road use for less than a grand, making it a £5.5K 999S
I wouldn't say No to a 999S for that price if I could find one

well still some days on it but would be worth watching to see what it ends at. they never really come up on this side of the water cos insurance companies try to get them break only which means cant go back on the road. what is the best way is to buy from say isle of man or another country and then it wont show up here any way if it is on the list.

I have offered my mate the full 749S red body kit including tank and mirrors that I have for what I think is a reasonable price. may influence his bidding, cant see as having 749S on the side of the fairing would do much harm, he could always sort the right parts at a later date.
Not sure if he has sold his 955SP3 yet as that may also influence his bidding.

Kev

Book price for oldest 999s 52 reg is £9895 retail
Buy in at anything from £7200 to £7900

Stick another £1000 on for an 04 reg model

Hope that helps.

I've got a few odds and sods lying around if he does decide to go down that road.
I always found the bigger bits are easy to get its the little things that seem to cost the money. any way good luck to him.;)

Cheers Shaun at those prices providing it's no worse than my mate says it is then getting it back on the road for a all in price of £5.5K is quite a nice saving. I know I could live with the odd light blemish for a saving of around £2k.
What do you mean I could live with more than a light blemish, leave my 916 out of this :frog:

Kev

just a thought, i presume you've factored in the cost of shipping it across from the states, but what about import duty and VAT. Not to sure on this one BUT i think Customs & Excise take the book value of what the vehicle is worth here rather than what you pay to avoid fictious claims on the value.

Might be worth a call to Customs & Excise just to check.

Also believe that even if it was on the register in the States as accident damaged it would not appear on register over here. Many moons ago i came across someone who imported accident damaged stuff from the States for this very reason.

Like the reference to the odd blemish:lol:

Doesn't come into it Shaun as he lives in Seattle works for a well known software company there (does depend on how you define work)
Very useful for buying bits on Ebay that are "ship to USA only"
He was the first of my mates to start club racing when he lived over here, it was real fun and kept me very busy being his mechanic.
When he heard the other day that I may possibly get made redundent he instantly offfered to pay for my flight over to his place and stay with him for a while.
