V .. for V-piece Anyone else here have a real nice bike with a real shot to s**t looking oil-cooler?!? I was wondering if it would be a good plan to fit some mesh/gauze into the holes cut in the v-piece. If I could get the same mesh that the '02 748R has atop the side panels I would be a very happy boy:sing: Anyone done similar? |
I made my own from anodised ally and fitted it to a carbon V piece also vented the front mudguard see my avtar.:bouncy::bouncy: |
I canny see your avter RR :sniff: |
Sorry mate don't ask me to post a photo on here no chance had loads of help to get my avatar on. u2u me your e-mail and Ill send you a photo ( that I can do  ) |
NateR Sent you a photo I hope  |
You did! And that's exactly what I want to do .. Where did you get the ally and did you bond it? |
The fender / mudguard vent mesh is fixed with 3mm mush head allen screws as near to the real thing as I could get but mudguard is a standard one I bought of ebay. As for for the mesh I bought it already anodised form B&Q and bonded it on with an epoxy based resin to a carbon V piece not a difficult job. |
I put some mesh round the oil cooler and just held it on with tie bands. you can get the stuff from B and Q. |
rr any chance yuo could email me the photo too 748boy@bikerboys.co.uk sounds similair to what im thinking of doing in the next week or two |
One minor word of warning here. When I brought my 996 the previous owner had put mesh in front of the oil cooler, but had removed most of it as that too had got chewed up by stones. I didn't bother to check the V piece, on while on the way back from the ring one of these remaining bits stuck to the side of the openning finally made a hole in the front of the oil cooler, totally coating the rear tyre !! (Btw I don't blame the previous owner - I should have checked it for myself.) If this had happened while at the ring I doubt I'd be writing this. Also, I have noticed that my 998 V piece also slightly rubs the front of the cooler. So, a word of caution. By all means put the mesh on, but keep an eye on it. Cheers, John. |
Good Shout John! And something that many might possibly overlook. Thanks |
Your right John I cut back the return flange so as to leave a good clearance between the gause and the oil cooler. The muguard gause is screw on and I used nylock nuts after respraying it not a bad match. yes deej wil send you a pic also. I seem to have lost my Avatar again ??? |
