Ebay help pls Londoners / cyclists...a VERY elaborate scam???

I hope I'm wrong but something does not seems right about this auction:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...4397 870&rd=1

The 'seller' has 434 other 'brand new' bikes for sale, has set up a web site:

http://www.delincycles.com/

and claims to be in Peel Street in London - (which I cannot find in the E-Yellow pages but, the shop might not be listed).

The pictures, payment in Dollars, non-use (and ****ging-off) of paypal, new user, bidders ID protected....

Do I need to go on?

Does anyone know Peel Street in Kensington by any chance to confirm the shops existance?

Cheers - Frank

JasonBoswell 01-Feb-2005 21:18

There is a Peel Street in Kensington, but this to me looks like a scam. No genuine photos, Buy it now *only*...

keep away!

Rally 01-Feb-2005 21:29

Frank, that area is a small detour from my commute route. I could do a drive by if you'd like... or if you have a specific question for the shop I can see if they're open (if it exists!)

Rushjob 01-Feb-2005 21:59

Looks a bit dodgy to me.
How do you manage to be a platiinum power seller complete with the logo "borrowed" from ebay when you have zero feedback?
Why does it have a US "toll free" phone no?

rockhopper 01-Feb-2005 22:52

A very elaborate scam i think. Just think how long it would take to list 434 things on Ebay! The few i looked at were all different as well. I get the impression that the "seller" knows a bit about bikes though, for example road bikes are usually sold without pedals as most of the ads mention.

chrisw 02-Feb-2005 00:14

V. Suspect

Post code listed relates to Pembridge Gardens. Peel Street comes under W8.

They have also managed to transplant the shop onto the evens side of the road and at the opposite end to what it should be.

Iconic944ss 02-Feb-2005 00:17

Its impressive isnt it...I think some sort of automated program must have been used to create all those 400 odd auctions and as has been said...if it looks to good to be true.

Rally...if you wouldnt mind having a look mate - 32 Peel Street - we could maybe save someone from being scammed...just hope I'm wrong

Cheers - Frank

Iconic944ss 02-Feb-2005 00:20

this scamming lark is getting huge

its ok for us cos we've seen this sort of thing a lot recently but its easy to see how someone new to ebay (or similar) could get duped by this

my wife had a transaction on her card for some in cartridges which she didnt buy. we got the delivery address from the cartridge suppliers for an office in the city. i picked her up from work & called in this office to see what was going on.
i took in a cardboard box & clipboard & pen with me to look like a courier & asked the security gaurd where i could find this bloke from this company.
he told me the person & company didnt exist. for all i know it coud've been him behind it!

i think the people involved in this kind of fraud are theiving scum, whats wrong with them? do they think they're too good to get up & go to work for a living like the rest of us?
:flame: :flame:

gasmanrus 02-Feb-2005 19:12

good work guys for getting rid of this one:eureka:

they think they're smart but of course, we can be smarter:D

Dude, I know kung-fu...

Much like in the real world, everything can be traced back to the originators if you just know where to look.

You don't get anything for free, and people have to pay for web hosting and domain names (the www.etc bit) and so if you know how to look these things up, then you can trace it back to the owner, or at least the person that paid the bills.

Using tools like Netcraft and SamSpade you can dig a load of information about websites and their hosts. In the real world you can use tools like Streetmap, Brainstorm and 192.com to track people and places down.

It's easy when you know how ;)
