Red mirrors any ideas where and how much to get some red mirrors to replace my original black 748 mirrors? A |
About £80 a pair new from a Ducati dealer |
Or get the black ones painted for somewhat less??? Andrew |
I repainted mine. Plasi-kote (from halfords or B&Q) do a red which is a good match. |
any idea what the actual colour or code of a red ducati is? |

The PPG code is in the back of your owner manual, which any good paint merchant will be able to use to match some paint. However, as Colin says the PlastiKote Bright Red #1120 is a very, very close match when used with their matching primer/undercoat and laquer.... http://217.199.188.40/xmb/viewthread...92&pid=6591 6 |
cheers guys, im just in the process of doing mine so its off to halfordss tomorrow morning thats whats so cool about this site, that you can always find what you want when you want it |
Dya get a good finish with plastikote then ? Dropped my 888 against the wall and buggered the mirror up :(:( ..might have a crack myself. Also I think Rich Llewellin (lougi moto) has just had some mirrors done professionally..his numbers 07775557797. Cheers Nat |

I stripped them down and used various grades of wet and dry to remove the flashings. I then used a spray plastic primer available from my local car parts shop. I then built the coats of the PlastiKote up. I didn't bother with a laquer but this would produce an even better result I'm sure. |
Italia Moto in Lincoln do an exchange service. You take your black ones in, chuck 'em a few quid and walk out with a couple of shiney red or yellow ones. Done deal. Mark :burn: |
Just had mine done for £50. Look's really really nice and transforms the look of the bike. 4D |
as advised, I primed, painted (code 1120), lacquered etc and unfortunately the red is close to the bodywork but to my eye sufficiently different to notice i.e. slightly orangey red than ducati red. did anyone else have this problem or am I being too picky for my £15? |
I also tried as suggested, WHY DONT I LEARN!! If anyone ever hears or sees me doing something technical or vaguely technical, SMACK ME! After 7 layers of paint (yes 7!) the things still look patchy and terrible! A paper got caught on them betwwen coats which removed paint and primer, tried to patch up, re-prime, lines every where....AARRGHH Got a mate trying to sort them out for me - reckon they will end up 3" deep in paint when finished!! Its at times like this I remember why I pay others to do these things and why I never have any money left.....dont even know if the colour is any good with the bodywork yet, no doubt be MILES OFF!!:flame: |

Saucey devil. I never ever ever paint anything myself, and i'll never ever ever try and lay bricks ever again! |
Having a bad day Paul?? I picked up a set from our old friend e-bay. Under £50 for the pair. aerosol painting's a bit of an art, preparation is 9/10ths of the job, and when you take into account your time as well as the materials, it may work out a lot cheaper to just go for the exchange option. |
just like wallpapering - 10/10 for initial enthusiasm (it can't be that difficult) - 3/10 for application (well I did manage to buy the right paint)!!! |

How about these from FAR with integrated lights: http://www.far.it/catalistinolist.as...48-998&#bottom or without: http://www.far.it/far/amministrazion...istino/161.jpg Regards, Jean |
preparation was the easy bit...wet & dry fine stuff, couple coats primer, all went well, it was after that problems began! |
|
...just got mine back, putting them on tomorrow...we'll see what the coulour is like! |
...did you send them off to a pro? what was the damage? |
nah - got a mate to sort my bodge...couple of minor runs still but pretty good considering, oh and about 15 layers of paint by now!!! Not sure whether to laq em or not tho?? |
did you use the red plastikote 1120 paint? are you happy with the colour match? |
I think I used a different colour, 620?? but it is platicote and the finish is good, wont know about the colour til tomorrow....and I have seen some pro ones which dont match, in fact I am not sure I have ever seen completely matching mirrors?? Is it possible, different materials and eye line? |
I resprayed my front mudguard with Plastikote after venting it. Very Pleased with the result. |
