This business of buying new cars must be catching. Latest addition to the household is a Suzuki Jimny, delivery day of AGM. Early enough that we can pick it up and drive there.

We have a jimmy on our shoot next best thing to a landrover realy mate :)

Not too sure about that, but def better than expensive Urban Offroaders that can't wade through a wee bit of mud

Pretty good - only around a tenner a year. Quarterly magazine etc, meets, sticker etc.

If you are buying the Suzuki new, I seem to remember they were offering free membership with all new 4x4s.

Anyway, enjoy it.

Don't listen to all these ingrates, like most I thought the Suzuki Jimmy was a bit of a joke 4wd-changed my mind last summer. Went to Iceland with my lady Jo, we picked up a jimmy and headed into the wilds for 10 days, camped and had a great time. The jimmy is a VERY capable 4wd, it can get through rivers and up tracks that you wouldn't believe, when you actually look hard at the thing you find it has a seperate chassis and fully articulated axles front and rear-it's basically a modern take on an 88" Landrover, and we all know how capable they are. They may not be the fastest or most comfortable 4WD but they can do mud, water, tracks the lot, and they don't cost a fortune.

Completely barking the Icelanders are, we went right up onto the highest glacier in a Toyota Landcruiser modified by these guys-you just wouldn't believe where they drove the thing unless you were there.

We went across country in the Jimny to a place called Langmanenlarger-well anyway it's spelt something like that, to get to this place we drove about 30 miles on tracks and across a volcanic desert, then we had a DEEP-like half way up the doors- river crossing to get into the place. Anyway when we arrive I see this Icelandic bus there so I think 'Ok there's a bus so there must be an easy way out'-wrong! The bus had about 3ft ground clearance and 4WD and the route out was down a river valley-well actually down the river bed, for 14 miles sharing it with the river..............Apparently the first bus of the day comes in with a guy leading it in a 4wd as the track changes day by day with the action of the water. Bloody good fun but a bit scary since the warden at the place didn't reckon we could get through in a little 4wd only in the bigger ones, and we didn't fancy turning round and re-tracing our tracks for about 6 hours-anyway we did make it, but it was hard work as you had to concentrate on where you were going, if you got stuck you could be waiting a long time before someone came by to help you.

Jimnys are great, just as Monty said. They are as capable as Jeeps in really rough stuff and there are a zilliion parts for them (in Japan at least). They turn over occasionally, but they are easily righted by about two healthy guys. Japan has some interesting trails, but they are very narrow and hard to negotiate at times. Jimnys usually get through. Newer ones are more civilized, but still capable, but the old 3 cyl. two stroke ones were a real blast! U should enjoy the hell out of it!
