Alternative tachos for the 748/996/8 series??

Ok one thing i really dislike about the no 749/999 Ducatis is the tachos, speedo's, dash board... whatever you want to call it.
So my question is..... any of you guys substitute those for a more modern digital one?
What are the aftermarket options?

Dibble 08-Feb-2005 19:56

oh dear, oh dear, oh dear ;)

adam748s 08-Feb-2005 19:57

Just fitted this to my 748....

http://www.veypor.co.uk/

....and it does exactly what I wanted and looks very tidy. Digital speedo, gear indicator, shift light, etc. Cost £180.

Can't post a photo as the bike is still on its way back from Almeria, but will try and do so next week.

Hmmm.... look nice. Thanks.
Yeah, post a pic here when you can. I would like to see how it fits on the bike.

adam 08-Feb-2005 20:33

where does it go?

rcgbob44 08-Feb-2005 22:06

Duc soon

I suggest you go to nearest Honsukyamasaki dealer!:barfy:

adam748s 08-Feb-2005 22:22

Jubilee clip thingy they supply clamps to the top of the left fork leg and the unit sits just in front of the yoke. As such, it obscures part of the original speedo, but still looks very tidy.

Hahahahaha, but no i won't :P:lol:
I was kind of expecting this kind of remarks before i made this thread, but i don't care.
In fact the pre 999's dash board kind of reminds me the ones on the old Hon....hon....hon.... (that word i can not spell) CBR's :barfy:
Hey, i like Ducs and Italian bikes in general (i had an Aprilia MilleR and "have" a 05 MV F4 1000) but that doesn't mean i HAVE to like or prefer old dash boards, does it?

beancounter 09-Feb-2005 09:40

For heaven's sake Ducsoon, just go and buy a bike and join the club.

I agree with you mate! i think it looks like an import jap 400 dash! I have been looking at these
http://www.techtronics.co.uk/dash.htm
or
http://www.rhencullen.co.uk/avia.htm
at the bottom of the page

or the one i really like is this
http://www.translogicuk.com/md.htm

The race bikes have a really cool display but i think it costs about 4 grand:o

Ahhhh... GREAT!!! Now we're talking.
Thanks for the info, mate :)
I thinik i'll get one of those if i end up getting the 998 ;)

chris99 09-Feb-2005 14:29

no worries matey! If you get one before i do lets us know what its like. The translogic one looks to be the best imo it even has a battery voltage display on it which is handy for dukes:D

adam748s 13-Feb-2005 15:46

Photo of Veypor fitted to my 748s....

Mr_S 13-Feb-2005 23:15

So, how do the digital dashes handle a mechanical speedo input?

I see the Veypor has a wheel rotation sensor, but what about the rest?

Nice!! i like that one lots!!:D

Looks GOOD!! :D
Thanks.

Can that one show the rpm's??

adam748s 14-Feb-2005 23:37

Yes...you splice a sensor wire onto one if the wires from one if the coils and it picks up the RPM from that. It works out the gear you are in by comparing RPM to the measured speed. Set the shift light to the limit you want.

Felix 15-Feb-2005 16:50

Of course, you could always get the real thing, as used on the 999 F05:

Wow, that one is awesome.
And this one looks great too
but i'm not sure if it displays everything.

Felix 15-Feb-2005 19:36

Yeah, AIM is good stuff. I saw this one in person at the recent motorsport show and it's the business. It's the one I'd go for, good value for 500 odd quid:

:o:o:o

I LOVE that!!!

It says its only water resistant though!! Could be an issue on a bike:(

Felix 16-Feb-2005 12:37

Take a look at AIM's website. They have a video of the MXL dash on a bike around Mugello!
